Do you really think a boycott is going to hurt them? They'll lay off hourly workers before skipping a trip on their private jets.
I boycotted Walmart and Amazon for years. Now there aren't other options. More people should have thought about this a long time ago before they monopolized everything.
I think it would absolutely hurt them. Because it’s a sign that consumerism isn’t worth it compared to what it’s costing us. These companies thrive on growth it’s essential for their model. Even stalling it will damage them.
It'll hurt the workers. You'll never convince enough people to boycott Amazon or Walmart for it to have any impact on the companies. It's like breaking the window of a Starbucks. It's not going to hurt the company. It's just going to affect the poor hourly worker who's stuck cleaning the mess.
Learn more about what would happen to a company of this nature if the growth ended let alone a boycott. Or the fact its entire business model suffers from exhausting the labor pool as a major threat if you’re truly worried for workers. The do nothing attitude has certainly got us far 👍
Why are we mad at Bezos? Because he backed Trump. Which means we should be focusing our energy on Trump. There aren't a whole lot of options for workers these days. I had to suck up my pride and apply at Amazon. I'm already worried about a lot of my coworkers, who aren't citizens. Pick your battles.
I already know that if ICE shows up at my warehouse, I'm going to end up in police custody. I'm not worried about Jeff, I'm worried about the families I call friends and coworkers. I'm worried about bringing an end to Trump and Musk's fascist regime. Worry about the big problem. Focus energy on that
Haven't bought since 2003, other than what I had to buy for Kindle textbooks, and maybe 2-3 other things I couldn't find elsewhere. Amazon is a weird company and very arrogant, and that culture pervades their staff. No thanks.
cxld amazon sub 7 years ago, and source locally. deleted facebook in nov of 2020. dont use Google, instagram, drive a tesla or use X. feels good to have a soul.... #boycottamazon
Never got into Walmart because I saw what happened to small businesses when they went to Ticonderoga. I should’ve avoided Amazon too but with small kids it was hard not to but I am now. Target has been super tough but I’m finding other places.
I was just thinking I needed to get refills for my favorite pen; that Amazon would likely be the easiest place to buy them and about to put in the order. thank you for the reminder not to
Used to buy art stuff from Arteza online and now they only sell/ship via Amazon. That’s a bummer. Any ideas on where I can get a good selection of art supplies that doesn’t involve Amazon?
Do a google search for local or near-ish art supply stores. A lot of them will ship. Worst case, Blick isn’t terrible, it’s just a chain store, when supporting a single small business can be a win-win.
Amazon is way cheaper then any other big retailer. Why would I drive my personal inflation up just to have zero impact on Amazon, the biggest retailer in the world.
@mettwoch.bsky.social I am sorry they convinced you that your voice doesn't matter. Our strength is in numbers. Our voices are easy to tune out individually but collectively they cannot be silenced. #resist
Yea not ordering 200€ worth of items in a year is not even close it "resistance". Doing something on a political level, that would have an immediate effect on all the customers in that particular country.
Millions of people not doing that is effective, though. Encouraging others to do so and sharing that they're not doing it alone is how we get to that widely adopted boycott, and that is doing something political.
I am very aware of how markets work. Meanwhile says reality that there's not such thing as a big boycott. We saw that with temu and TikTok, the users that care about data security stayed off that apps, but the rest of the crowd just didn't care and created those big tech giants.
Corporations don't just either exist or not exist, rather they have an associated value. Boycotts reduce that value and consequently their power. Also, boycotts have a secondary effect of boosting competition, which reduces the corporation's power over a given market.
Ethics come in shades of grey. Honestly, I'm not buying anything that's not an absolute necessity. Who knows how much food will cost next month with so many of Trump's tactics focused on destabilizing our food supply?
It'll cost just enough to be affordable. We're not stupid right wingers, let's stop buying into this myth prices are set according to cost. Anyone whose taken econ 101 knows that's barely part of their metric. That's why we're paying more for eggs than our neighbors down south.
I am not gonna count on it being affordable. USAID and USDA are no longer making all payments to farmers. Migrant farm workers are being targeted. Water was released from lakes that was needed to grow produce. And the flu outbreaks are not gonna be tracked well
If it's that bad, then not buying an egg beater this month won't spare you. I'm spending $500-$700 dollars a month on groceries. It is my second highest expenditure. Either they'll bump up wages just enough to keep the pressure on, or this game is going to change pretty dramatically.
I will never buy from a company whereby the owner, Jeff Bezos gleefully claims he wants his staff to dread every working day. What a thoroughly evil man.
You can't boycott every place in the country. Just accept the reality that none of these people or corporations ever cared at all about anything but money. Millions of people were hoodwinked into believing they cared, but now you know they never did.
Caught on the horns of a dilemma right now: I don’t shop at Walmart or Amazon, Kroger is striking (and I refuse to cross a picket line) so that leaves me with Target or Trader Joe’s with Target being very close & convenient… my kids may starve.
I think it would be hilarious if every single Amazon employee selected a time and date and simply stopped working, especially after having seen this video.
We are no longer a democracy or republic, but the land of idiocracy, kleptocracy & broligarchy. The 1%ers know this; the Gyp Bozos & Suckerbergs can afford to “evolve” to secure their realms. They get more me-time to man-scape or grow out their hair.
We've been boycotting those three plus Aldi for removal of DEI programs. Aldi has been by far the hardest one to boycott. We did the bulk of our grocery shopping there and saved a lot of money. That has now moved to Costco and Albertsons stores.
Why I'm getting into non-electric, non-fossil fuel woodworking has a few reasons. Replacing plastic products with wood products has environmental reasons.
But it's also to ensure I stop buying things from Amazon or Temu. Boxes, cases, drawing tools, ttrpg stuff; I forage it and I make it.
If you need tools; flea markets, blacksmiths, local businesses. Wind and thunderstorms fell trees giving you your material and you help clear your neighborhood's roads.
Excuse me, sir. I'm 75 and my wife 2 years older. WE MAKE OUR LIVING ON AMAZON. We're not Nazis, we hate Drumpf. Without Amazon there are hundreds of thousands of us who make our only living there would likely be homeless. Dont put us in the same box as Fascists because we voted for KAMALA.
I go on amazon to find items, then shop else where, normally I find the manufacturer's or same sellers website. It's bormally cheaper, but takes a few days longer. But it makes me feel so much better!
I currently buy from any alternative than amazon, however sometimes it is simply not possible, such as the arctic liquid freezer cpu cooler--it's one of the best, and the company is worth supporting, but their only distribution platform (in the U.S. anyways) is Amazon :(
@liquidthex.com every little bit helps. Genuine need doesn't count. It's the mindless buying of unnecessary things that drives their bottom line. Maybe contact the company directly and they will work with you.
Weaning myself off, which is tough up here in AK. Not a lot of stores. Can't get a lot of things, except thru them. Reeeeally wish there was an alternative
I’m suggesting boycotting the businesses OWNED by trump contributors. While the money didn’t directly come from the company, it came from the owners. Do as you please. Research is always key!
Don’t get me wrong—I’m all for boycotting Trump supporters. It’s just not always as easy as singling out the Musk/Zuck/Bezos types. I think it’s great that consumers are paying closer attention to where there money goes.
And he's such a dork dating that woman who dresses like a who** in her fifties no less. He should be embarrassed. They both look trashy. Money can buy you a big yacht but not class.

Life is fine without.

We find it on bezos’ site, we then go to the manufacturer and buy it directly from them.
For all of bezos’ and theil’s strutting, all they really did was invent a better cash registers.
They didn’t split the atom.

I agree with the sentiment but there is no ethical consumption in capitalism.
Fuck Bezos

They remain oligarchs because we still give them our money.
Stop giving them money.
Also shut down all Meta accounts.
