Hi RJ. The community has stepped up to cover the cost of the event and then some. But watch for a Word of Thanks microgiving campaign next week to support similar work in Colorado.
I’m so glad the community has stepped up and, as a woman in STEM, I would have as had I known, but it is unforgivable that they had to. Between things like this and our federal workers, we are losing the potential of the best of us because of the actions of unserious, insecure, and stupid people.
Requiring “more clarity around guidelines” is merely the first knee on the ground.Believe me there is more“clarity”on the way and more and more companies and individuals will cave to protect their personal and financial interests. Money is this regimes first line of attack the next will be physical
The chilling effect at work! Cower and give in BEFORE anyone even tries to make you. It’s insidious but easy to avoid once you know how to spot it in your own behavior (or your employer’s).
The WOW Museum is such a wonderful organization that has brought so much enrichment to my kids. I am so glad the community responded and the event goes on, but the environment we now live in is just…I don’t even have words.
Any idea if they’re going to need volunteers now? The company I work for hasn’t changed their DEI policies at all and I wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the women I work with would be happy to come do some engineering related stuff with the kids.
Grateful that local philanthropists stepped up to cover the deficit but not all programs like this will be able to rely on the same help. And replacing the scientist volunteers wont be as easy as replacing the money. Thank you for focusing on the local impact of all this chaos.
Take names, keep records… when we’re out of this, make sure everyone involved in the decision can’t find work to feed themselves. Make sure they pay, so all others thereafter understand you’re gonna pay one way or another so you may as well do the right thing.
Until trump is out of office and musk is out of public business, I would advise all girls and boys to stay away from science. They will not be rewarded with respect, not to mention jobs.
That's a sort of obeying in advance though. On the contrary, we should step it up, we should share our knowledge with each other, a lot more should be free and available to all.
And we shouldn't count on corporate sponsors! They have been controlling what we are allowed to know.
Sorry, one of the few times I didn't watch (and should have before responding). I'm happy to double my monthly contribution to NEXT's weekly organizations as penance. Thank you for continuing to highlight the needs in our community and the injustices happening!
I think we have to make it what we want it to be at this point, obviously voting and then burying ourselves in work, consumption, and entertainment, has gotten us where we are.
I'm glad they got the funding. I'm sad it had to be crowdsourced. As a woman in STEM in Colorado, I'm always happy to (and often do) volunteer my time for these. I'll have to look into this place.
These sponsors are fucking pathetic. Obeying in advance for something that isn't even in the stratosphere of DEI is a whole other layer of sadness. My daughter grew up loving WOW!, so awesome to hear that real citizens stepped up in light of these cowardly corporations

Why didn’t you name the sponsors that withdrew, especially the private ones?
