Someone i was out on a nature walk with years ago complained about how "boring" it is to see only a handful of species again and again.
It isn't about variety, it's about the moments of time where and when you find them - and this is certainly one of those moments!

This is way better than the iPhone video I got of a yellow crested snagging a crayfish.

What’s lacking is me saying the word “yes” real loud on the video and scaring the bird by accident. It walked away real fast, but did not drop the crayfish, ftr.

Thank you. I took one quick video of the seen before sunset to show the awful power lines going overhead and how they reflected in the water. They definitely made the photography tricky. Your encounter sounds amazing too, even with your video of you scaring the bird. Wow!

Thank you. This pond is an old gravel pit in Longmont, Colorado, right in the middle of town. I am pretty sure the city placed these trees for the birds to use, although I could be completely wrong.

I went back to the same location the next night and took those pictures. It is always perplexing how some great blue herons fly away as soon as you get within 100 yards and others permit you to walk right up to them and document their behavior. Always puzzles me!
