You can fill in this nightmare AI form slightly more quickly than it appears because the answer to most of it is “enforce existing copyright legislation” and “don’t steal” and “property is property” or “this is my job, fuck off.” You can cut and paste a lot.

If you’re a creator or work in the creative industries or otherwise have a heart, then please add your voice to this UK Gov consultation on AI and Copyright. I said ‘freelance’ for company and ‘unsure’ for super-granular legal stuff but made my voice heard. You can too. www.gov.uk/government/c...

The entire thing seems to be based on it being totally impossible to do ethically.
So damned right they should be transparent on which data sets they use & gain consent beforehand.
The tech bro evangelists who want to destroy freelance subsistence artistic careers are powerful, rich, sociopathic, infantile and mad. And they have the ear of our PM.
Lots left blank as it didn't apply or I didn't know and whilst not a creative I hope my understanding of the field can help.
Still not sure "why" they want to do this short of getting into OpenAI etcs good books.
And nobody who earns a living from creative work wants to have to enforce their rights by opting out.
Everything comes full circle if you wait long enough.
You can not like copyright, but it’s definitely the law. And a way for creative people to sustain a living from their work.
Property is property. Deciding that doesn’t suit your business is not an answer.
Why are the people up top as rich as they ever were?
If you don’t want to do that, ask yourself this: how are search engines legal if copyright law prevents processing data without explicit consent?
And holding up Google - the “stealing all the books without asking” people - as an example of legal precedent on copyright seems a bit daft.
Anyway, if you’re right, all you need to do it get a judge to agree and presto! You’re done. But that didn’t happen with search engines (it was tried). It did happen with Napster. It hasn’t happened with AI (despite trying).
