Since 2021 I've watched the first 8 Sentai, Ultraman and Kamen Rider shows. Not sure how I've done it, totally hooked I guess. Barely any I wouldn't consider great. Probably better to pick the most loved though
You don't need to and probably shouldn't as some are not great and even terrible. Each series is standalone and totally disconnected from the other series except in crossovers and even then you don't need to have watched the other one because it's a franchise targeted to kids 8 and under.
I feel that. Usually I would just look at ones that I find more interesting thru clips, openings, or just the look of the characters and start watching from there.
Then watch some of them, still worth it. Senkai Ninja Sen Jiraya, Cybercops, Changeman, Black Kamen Rider and Kamen Rider Black RX are a few good places to start.
I feel like it's almost a fact that Super Sentai (and tokusatsu by extension) is guaranteed to have inspired your favorite non-tokusatsu Japanese media at some point tbh. I really love to see it
this is apparently from the first Japanese Super Sentai series back in the 80s, Power Rangers uses in-costume footage from the Super Sentai shows mixed in with out-of-costume original stuff with North American actors
our MMPR is based on Zyuranger, which came out in Japan like a year or 2 earlier
That's what I was thinking, that it was one of the early Sentai shows. I couldn't say what the name was but I wasn't sure if it was from the 70s or 80s. Its been a long time since I did my research on old Sentai shows that led up to Zyuranger.
The episode of JAKQ (second Sentai show) where they chase and kick a dog into the sky then it turned out to be a robot really surprised me. I've got a gig but I think it's too big
I saw the video on youtube a few years ago. It was a cute baby monster making silly sounds. I believe it had a bow on its head. Then the red ranger blasts it with a laser gun, killing it. Does anyone else remember?
no wait I think that's just from a later season
I can't remember what the japanese name for the season was but in english it was dino charge
notably, said baby monster does not appear in the power rangers version
Any time I see Super Sentai, I can only think of when Gai is really gonna die and so he lights a cigarette and smokes half of it on screen. It lives in my head for all time.

a. The actual monster was using the "baby form" as a diguise
b. The Red ranger there mentioned something about "seeing them transform" in the subbed version.
And did they just defeat a baddie by playing KICKBALL? XD
The first Super Sentai show
(I need to keep up on my research...)
Still, though: that is blummin' HILARIOUS. XD
