like this image is actually crazy! and will make living in, and getting around JC significantly better for residents, if it holds.
and if 12 minutes cut from this chart doesnt impress you, it's important to recognize that there are at least 3 or 4 other roadways that cascade/back up from this.
this also, again, fails to mention that the toll is NOT $9 for the people in NJ who had no 'free' options to get into the CRZ before yesterday. It is $6, because there is no route you can take where you don't pay the (credited) Port Authority toll, that just went up from $14 to $16.
So he is expected to swallow the $2 increase, but rage against the $6 one that cuts time from his commute. i am seeing people talking about driving to a subway station to get downtown...just take the fucking train from your town and stop driving into ours. it's truly so insane.
Joe DiMaggio’s parents were Italian immigrants, and his father came through Ellis Island. Story says they’re related through his grandfather. Not crazy to think other Italian relatives could also have immigrated through NY and then settled in NJ.
This was part of the point too. Get a bunch of the people that don't need to drive outta there so the people who can't do their job any other way can drive in more freely. It working as intended on the very first weekday in operation rules.
I do wish every reporter started with, “How much do you spend each year on gas and car repairs? How many hours a year do you spend in traffic to/from Manhattan?” And I would guess 95% of people would have no answer.
An hour stuck in traffic? Come on, it's not like Manhattan is perpetually gridlocked or that a $9 charge will magically fix any congestion that does occur.
This is the usual story wherever congestion pricing has been implemented. The first people to Get It are the contractors, delivery drivers, people for whom every minute sitting stuck in traffic is a minute you aren’t making money.
this is always what I tell people who HAVE to drive for their living when I talk about introducing more robust public transit to DFW. 'Wouldn't your job be easier if commuters like me could get the FUCK out of your way and off the road?' Overwhelmingly: yes.
AND, though data is limited and anecdotal, numerous residents of our buildings at between 43 and 42nd and 9th Ave. reported FAR less noise in the last 24 hours. Obviously it's early days, but, man, what a difference.
I expect the delay will go back up soon when people realize that $9 is not a huge increase on the tolls they're already paying. Ideally, this would mean that people want the tolls to go up so they have less traffic to fight, but don't hold your breath.
How about, back up your assertion?
If you fault him for opposing congestion pricing, fine, but that doesn't explain how NJgov could relieve traffic going into Manhattan. The bridges and tunnels only have so many lanes.
he could relieve congestion by supporting congestion pricing, not working to expand highways in NJ, funding NJ transit adequately, expanding NJ transits coverage area or increasing service, or accepting a $100mm payment from the MTA as part of congestion pricing to help relieve congestion in NJ
Snark aside, agree njt needs dedicated funding; mta $$ could help; refusing it is dumb. Increasing trains into Manhattan depends on tunnel expansion, a long way off.
