You should play games you don't like from time to time. Being able to articulate what you don't like about a game is just as important as being able to talk about what you do like. And hey, on very rare occasion you may find your tastes have changed - maybe that thing you hated is good actually?

As a creative, I enjoy balancing my palette and trying stuff out that I normally wouldn't be into. Either it can broaden my horizons, inspire me to make something better, or reaffirm my own tastes.
Being able to pinpoint what you dislike about a game provides a lot of context; solidly pragmatic information.
And even just getting practice looking at games through that lense is helpful for polishing your own work.
Funnily enough, I once had the tastes changing aspect but in reverse. I tried a game that was similar in many ways to a game system I'd run for a long time, and it was like a veil was lifted from my vision.
I saw all the unrealized potential and all the cruft I'd just gotten used to.
This is why advertising is aimed at young adults, they still feel a fear of missing out on something they don’t know about. I fear missing out on things I DO know about.
It's also okay to stick to your comfort zone too though. Not everything needs to be challenged.

People have become far too comfortable speaking authoritatively that they convince themselves of whatever they say.
Why would I waste that playing something i don't like when I have 500 games I love waiting to be played?
If I had lots of free time my view might be different
At least some people saw it and thought "Huh, i should follow them, they have interesting ideas"
If you often play turn-based games on Steam, it will recommend them to you constantly.
Inhabiting a character vs. being told a story produces very different gameplay. Solving a puzzle and empathizing are meaningfully different types of engagement.
People seem to like them, though, maybe some day I can find out why.
Also FWIW even as someone who LIKES Fallout, I think the crafting in 4 is the best bit.
