Hayden Christensen really carries the prequels. It's probably easier to give a good performance with good material, but Hayden made Anakin someone I could follow the emotional arc of IN SPITE OF the horrible dialogue and from what I've seen bts, minimal direction. I was actually invested bc of him.

I don't even think it's a "wrong" characterization, I just don't vibe with it personally.
Star Wars necessitates sort of dramatic, soap opera style acting.
Hayden is a very *subtle* actor, being able to convey a *LOT* with just a look.
He was internalizing a performance that needed more externalizing.
Lucas, for all he's done, has struggled with relating ideas to his actors.
Even the sand line - like, i already love that scene because it conveys SO much about their 2/

The problem is that they were hired by a guy who writes cheesy diologue at best and abhorrent diologue at worst
