Judith Butler: "Once you decide that a single vulnerable minority can be sacrificed, you’re operating within a fascist logic, because that means there might be a second one you’re willing to sacrifice, and a third, a fourth, and then what happens?"

The attack on affirmative action, birth right citizenship, Black History month, and DEI sacrifices numerous minority groups. But, that is MAGA's goal. To push us down so they can barely be above us
This can be applied to all the clinically vulnerable, disabled & elderly people whose lives & health were sacrificed during the pandemic so that healthy & able bodied people could ‘return to normal’.
They… we, were seen - even by the Left - as collateral damage for the freedom of the majority.
This has been happening since 2020 wrt Covid, and governments are doubling down on it even today. The vulnerable will be sacrificed to protect the wealth of the few.
Niemoller wrote several different versions to fit different audiences, and he also was an open advocate for genociding Jews as soon as Nazis got in. When Nazis killed converts to the church because of Jewish ancestry, THAT was his line.
well, first were the chronically ill and disabled. kinda like how everyone decided to let us all die or be forced into isolation because masking is too hard for weak willed jackasses
Her answers are great but this journo's framing is ridiculously biased. I got into it with him here on Bsky when this first came out. He has his fair share of detractors here in Spain.
This is also exactly right: "On the left, we don’t know how to appeal to people’s deep passions. We think we’re very smart and very critical. But where’s the radical imaginary by which people will be passionately absorbed?"
For all their flaws, this is one thing Sanders and Corbyn understood. You need a story, and it's ok to identify enemies in that story--the billionaires--because people want to fight, they want to be excited.
Because the EU is dominated by neolib capitalists and he hoped for socialism. That the UK chose really stupid neolibs to run themselves is not his fault
The EU is a democratic institution, so fuck this shit.
Also that win is what made the UKIP redundant, making it merge with the tories, which under the bullshit FPTP voting system that nobody ever wants to touch is arguably what allowed them to win at the 2017 elections.
That the postwar intellectuals had this all completely figured out should be a chastening realization for the misinformation research types--but of course they don't read books.
i would've reskeeted this but the interviewer is SO obtuse and often refuses to give her ideas any merit so i had to click out of the interview halfway through because the interviewer conflated criticism of israel with antisemitism and terrorism
For years when arguing with terfs about them sharing their beliefs with the far right, they make some lame comparison about Hitler and vegetarianism. No terfs - *your* transphobia is the bedrock of the new fascism, not an irrelevant lifestyle choice.
What I find most intriguing, are the people who are still in total denial of what's going on. This has been seen before, many times in history, and yet they refuse to accept its happening. Hands on ears la-la-la-la not listening.

Also I didn’t mention 400 million people worldwide developing long Covid & how that’s largely ignored.
But they always come for you in the end because you're not them.

There has been warnings, for years.
