Oh come on Labour - so depressing to hear Pat McFadden say UK has no plans for a youth mobility scheme with the EU. We have schemes with NZ, Australia, Canada, Japan, Iceland, Uruguay & more - only reason not to have one with EU is fear of right wing press. Such cowardice @bbclaurak.bsky.social

At the very least they should acknowledge the economic, taxation and immigration damage that has resulted from leaving the union even if they currently have no real intention of doing anything positive about changing anything
Starmer didn't have much choice but to reject, given the headlines that would have ensued
It should have been left until after the win to get a more nuanced reception.
OR have our Freedom of Movement back ?
OR Rejoin the Single Market ?
OR the Customs Union ?
Because if there is no solid, logical reason why we 'must'n't', then this is just stupid, Cowardly and immensely damaging 'Bollocks' !
The UK needs to actually feel at home cooperating closely with its neighbours.
If they want to continue their transactionalism, like last time they were in the EU, then there is no place for them inside the EU.
The EU needs to see..
A positive attitude, no sense of entitlement/arrogance/ignorance.
Theoretically KS can decide to do a 180 but realistically someone else will be needed to change the course in direction of the EU.
If Labour's going to have its policies dictated by the rightwing press, we've lost already. We need longterm vision, true leadership & we desperately need political courage.
The stakes couldn't be higher. I truly hope Labour is up to the challenge but am fearful
How about governing for the benefit of the country, not just some (now fringe) reactionaries emotions?
Labour, you won the election - get over it!!! Show leadership to prove you are 'over' brexit!
I don't believe the people who say he's playing 4D chess and has a grand plan to confound the right, save the country and make everything wonderful again.
My view is that his only concern is winning the next election.
In which aim, at this rate, he's definitely going to fail.
That depends, in large part, on a closer relationship with the EU.
Which depends, so the EU has said, on fishing •and a YMS•.
» So WTAF is Labour doing this for?? «
Dude, they hold all the cards.
The only thing that makes sense for Starmer to do is to beg to rejoin.
That doesn’t make sense does it?
The EU has offered it and Starmer has refused it.
Because he's frit.
Plus, there is little point trying to join the EU or the SM if the EU think that in 4.5 years the fuckwits will be back in charge and will simply walk out again.
The EU needs to feel confident that any move towards return is permanent. Which isn't the case now.
No thanks.
#BuckFrexit.
In the meantime, mend the relationships the Tories fire bombed
#RejoiningTheEU is correcting a big mistake that is now transparently obvious!
The world that would have allowed a successful brexit doesn’t exist anymore!!
Democracy doesn’t exist at one point in time only. It was implemented and it is now up to everyone if they want to continue down that road or choose a new direction.
This mistake was monumental. It will take decades to repair so the UK better get started right away.
It's about time they packed in cowtowing to those vultures.
English always want things for free!
Brexit was a con.
We should be talking about rejoining, or at least joining the Single Market and the Customs Union for a start. We need to regain the 4+% of GDP that we lost.
We have so little genuine balance and representation in this country.

Although it's being spun as falling short of FoM, it is FoM for a significant Demographic who will be instrumental in paving the way towards our seeking re-entry WHEN the time is right. That time is a long way off & we need a Written Constitution first, plus a Super Majority, to avoid Brrrexit v2.
What did Johnson say (correct me if I'm wrong) if you want the death threats to stop back my Brexit, calling them 'humbug'
Who's a coward now?
I prefer the Irish PR system, but how to end FPTP in the UK when it suits the 2 worst options just fine?!
Id say so what
The youth mobility thing is part of a negotiation which means it needs to be levied for things we want not just given away on Sunday morning TV
It doesn't reflect well on Britain.
Greetings from Stockholm!
And that reflects badly on Britain.
It undermines the trust and identity that would be needed for other, more crucial negotiations.
Which is why Farage and the other racists are making a song and dance about him "being abroad too much".
They HATE the idea that he's mending fences quietly, and not telling the media what his long term strategy is just because they want a headline.
Utter cowardice and very disappointing that Starmer should turn out to be like this.
Starmer's Labour Party?
Surely not.
(Looks shifty)
Leveson 2 needed now.
Media ownership rules need rewriting now.
Electoral law reform needed now.
These reforms are needed now - everything else depends on them.
