Honestly the discourse on here is so much better than Twitter. I tossed off a take, people came in to correct me, we had a conversation, and folks were willing to give me grace about the stuff I admitted I got wrong!

The whole point is to get correct information and pass it on. Know what we’re talking about and fight the good fight. We don’t want to live in the MAGA world of blindly spewing disinformation received from only one source. That has been going on for nine years with four more years to go.
Yeah, It's such a breath of fresh air. Twitter and Facebook are so toxic. Hopefully we can maintain this level of mutual respect. I think the trick is to not engage with the trolls that are guaranteed to appear!
That's been my experience too. There's a lot more dialogue here, as opposed to discussion, debate, and fighting. I think the more we value this explicitly by naming it (as you have done), the more likely we are to be able to preserve and build upon it.
The name calling on the bird is insane. It’s not Twitter anymore, it’s a hellscape of bots and trolls. Bluesky feels like early Twitter b4 fElon destroyed it.
Totally understand, humans make mistakes, listen and/or hear facts, admit or dismiss it and move on. Zombies don’t know any difference and don’t care. I had to leave Twitter for intelligent/civil discussions.
Oh I don’t disagree. What I was specifically referring to was the openness to hear a reasonable argument contrary to one’s initial position, digest it (not
immediately discount it) and be able to admit that is an interesting point worth discussing further and perhaps you were wrong.
Here is can admit I was wrong and I feel fine. Its weird knowing that if I'm wrong people will politely and respectfully tell me. Its like it was a truly toxic relationship. I feel so loved lol
Disagreements are good, especially if we come to a conversation intent on learning something from others. Just remembering that "I may be wrong" makes the social exchange so much more worthwhile. I hate the sniping but don't mind a bit when someone points out what my argument misses.
I haven't witnessed that at all.
Having the right to speak freely doesn't automatically guarantee that listeners/readers are obligated to accept your statements as fact.
Over here, we prefer to be informed by sources that are truthful, accurate, and not founded on fearmongering or belittling.
Obliged to accept your statement about Bluesky and Mastodon being heavy on "censorship..." It just isn't true.
What the USERS of these two apps are "heavy on" is civilized discourse, the absence of insults and hate speech and people talking shit about gender identities and sexual orientation, etc.
I agree that discourse, in and of itself, can be a positive thing as long as the participants are acting in good faith and not attacking the people with whom they disagree. But when people come here to troll and bully, we have no obligation to tolerate it. We're people, not virtual punching bags.
Got into my first Bluesky argument today after a poster decided to throw a snide comment my way. Unfortunately, the other poster did not like my replies and decided to just block me. Oh well, hopefully that doesn’t happen too often.
There is a very strong blocking culture here. If someone annoys you, just block and move on. It's not about fighting, it's about having a discussion and having fun. :)
Unfortunately, some coming from that cesspool are here to bring in their filth. They like to post contentious stuff to goad people. I've blocked so many of them.
I've done a lot of reporting and then blocking. Hopefully, if we remain consistent in rejecting their poisonous discourse, they'll eventually figure out that they're wasting their time trolling us. 🤞
By ‘better than Twitter’ you mean the current X, right? I don’t call it X unless I’m making a point about how dysfunctional that place has become. I can’t post a reply anymore without name-calling trolls jumping in.
one of the dominant kinds of post on twitter is someone replyimg something breath-takingly stupid, intellectually dishonest, or disingenuous and it just makes you mad. Follow up with a couple chatgpt reply bots and you have a ruined day!
Again, the only issue here is the character limit. Most controversial subjects have a tremendous amount of nuance that cannot be properly conveyed when you are out of space before you finish typing three sentences related to the subject.
They've added a feature so you can make full threads and then post them all at once. Use the + at the bottom of the post window and it'll open the next one for you to continue. Once you've written everything, THEN hit post and all of your posts are published at the same time in a thread.
That is convenient. Thank you for the tip. I would prefer it to all be in a single post, though. I have, in the past, written a single sentence that exceeded the ~280 character limit (which did, however, include compound sentences), but perhaps I am too long-winded.
Reddit is probably one of the best to be honest. Lots of space to type in detail and link sources, upvotes and downvotes to help eliminate noise and trolls, and the moderation is usually decent. The only downside is that some mods are unwilling to entertain earnest dissenting opinions.
This is where the Democratic party itself needs to get. Decide on the bare minimum that we expect people to support to be a part of the party, and then extend grace to each other, allowing others to come around on our views and allowing ourselves the grace to evolve as well.
Ciao X: Have officially deactivated from X, an inauthentic platform which promises but denies equal access for non-MAGA users. In reality, it's virtual flypaper designed to distract non-authoritarian users from more meaningful activities. Thankful 4 the Detox & DeStressing! https://bsky.app/profile/silenciodogwood.bsky.social/post/3lb3mlyexms2v
It’s rare that we get a second chance to get things right. I’m hoping Bluesky is just that - a second chance at making social media a good place. I may be naïve in my thinking, and there’s no guarantee we’ll do it right this time (it’s up to us to be civil), but at least we have a chance.
I agree. People don't really come on social media to get pissed off and mad at stuff, but to enjoy what interests them and hopefully find something inspiring or entertaining.
I’ve noticed that I’ve had to watch myself when I disagree with someone here to be my normal diplomatic, pragmatic voice of reason & not a reactionary bully
unfortunately, I don't expect it to last. Because it hasn't lasted.
There are certain areas where you can expect to be "name called" here if you take the "wrong" position. One is Israel Gaza. Another is trans issues. And a third is blaming Harris for her own loss.
It's quite nice - a lot more understanding, even with criticisms. Real, good, natural conversations and (so far for my eyes) no "flying off the handle" type levels of stuff.
It depends on what you say or interject. You have to find people who are willing to debate. I myself believe left and right need to meet in the middle or else nothing will ever get done. But I dont think either side is ready for that.
Its the only way to move forward. 💯 both sided. as for politics nothing is getting done but increase the hate for one another... united you stand and divided you fall. Russia and the new alliance want usa to fall. And they are winning because you can't come together
??? Liberals aren’t silenced on X like conservatives were on literally every social media platform for the past 6 years. Elon is free to post what he wants and people are free to comment, whether they agree with him or not.
“Conservative censorship” is just a meme at this point. Literally every political post I go to on instagram, Facebook, twitter, TikTok, etc is filled with conservative comments. You guys keep crying that you’re silenced and yet you never stfu 🤷♂️
Let them join, they add to the user count. The difference is, here we have a level playing field. The owner isn't manipulating the flow of information, favouring certain groups, pushing misinformation, throttling links - attempting to kill all other media etc etc
Trolls are gonna happen and are a sign of success of the app. But having a non-right wing jackass putting his thumb on the scale helps keep discourse more civil and truth orientated.
I think I am finally ready to call it X. It is definitely my social media-Ex at this point. Just go back to check in on baseball free agency and a few connections that aren't over here.
Another FUN FACT is that #MAGA likes to answer questions using GIFs! They're akin to picture books toddlers use when they first get introduced to language, objects, and stuff... I like to compare that activity to #MAGA using GIFs - IT'S THEIR LANGUAGE!
It’s much easier to have a healthy community when the community is smaller and more homogenous.
I’m really liking the culture of Bluesky too, but I’m worried we’re seeing it through rose colored glasses because of the state of growth that it’s in.
No doubt about it. This is the famed honeymoon period where everything still has that new-social-media-platform smell. It'll be fun until (and if) an oligarch purchases Bluesky for a bazillion dollars. Then, *poof* it all goes away.
We need to remain nimble and ready to move. Like all new relationships, communication is key. Capitalism is great to a point but sooner or later we're going to need a platform that can't be bought.
I agree. I hope it’s not a bunch of like minded people, however refreshingly polite they are! It’s good to learn from others who don’t have the same outlook as yourself.
"Willing to give...grace." That's it, right there. Disagreements are going to happen and people will get things wrong. Sincere people should be given grace but obvious trolls should get a hand in the face!
Agreed. I just mildly criticized /reality checked Canada Post workers who are on strike. Had multiple replies. All respectful although basically defending the union. Fair game. It was lovely!

It did not go well for that other person. 🤭
We forgive here on BlueSky, we forgive.
I got a reply from a guy who posted my face with cum all over it.
We still have block :)
Let's discuss issues and not just throw hate out there.
immediately discount it) and be able to admit that is an interesting point worth discussing further and perhaps you were wrong.
How do you pull them up to do so?
Also pineapple on pizza is awesome

Go say something pro republican on there and see what happens.

Watch. People will say I'm the bad guy simply for defining this. It's a dangerous road with no good ending.
I prefer engaging with intelligent, kind, compassionate, inclusive people.
Censorship is never a tool for good.
...and as an adult I go where I please.
p.s. I do love their initials are b s 😂
fucking stupid.
I deactivated my account the minute it became X.
Plus, bonus, Elon hates when people call it Twitter.
Good faith discourse was rare there. Whatever it took to receive engagement.
"Please Gents, this is not X."
They immediately apologised to eachother and went their separate ways. I was taken aback by the civility of it all, heh. Long may it continue folks.
I worry that a beautiful language of burns and come backs will be lost for posterity.

The other can bring out the worst

Welcome to Bluesky
I am very glad you have experienced the difference between here and the other place first hand.
Please be sure to share any #feedback you have with @support.bsky.team
Thank you 🙏
As someone on the right, I've had fairly productive conversations with quite a few people on the left.
misery loves company.
& these folkers smell lonely.
def. don’t feel trolls! 🧌 🤣 💞
They want our attention SO bad. It’s pathetic on top of being sore winners. Let them enjoy their misery alone.
