What if every time someone said “identity politics” Dems turned it around and said “you mean equal rights for everyone” do you hear the difference 🤷🏾♀️

Dems are too afraid of the "identity politics accusation" bc people like Bernard & Meemaw Warren blame it for white people voting for Shitler.
I "blame" white folks fleeing Dems following passage of The Civil Rights Act. When you're used to dominance equal rights feels like oppression.
I tried that with “woke” and more recently “DEI” too. Shuts them down for a moment until they yell something about “pedo, libt*rd, or just JEW! (how is that an insult?).”
No they don’t think of white as an identity at all they just think they’re the default so when something is framed specifically around minorities they get bent out of shape about people wanting “special rights”
Meanwhile anyone who is not white, Christian and straight getting an equal opportunity is a threat to our white privilege.
These people's brains broke when an educated, intelligent, loving Black family moved into the White House and they have been playing identity politics ever since.
Right. They are sitting up here telling us "virtue signaling" is a problem, and I'm like, do you mean calling a racist a racist? Yall think telling folks to mind their own business is bad?
Instead of trying to figure out why folks like a liar that promises to do harm to POC.
This works.
As does, "not sure I'm following, which identity?" "ah, okay, just not our identities, right, white man and woman? Please continue"
Spoiler: they do not continue. Spin out most common.
The tRUmp voters won't hear the difference through all the wh sup & misogyny in their heads. I think we need to remove the social benefit of wh sup if we want them to stop choosing it or adjacency to it. But I don't have any idea on how to do this other than shunning those who embrace it.
The problem is the white people who are NOT racist have ceded power to the ones that are in too many communities. You all will have to run against them & not vote for them follow the Beshear model
I think there are so many yt ppl who get ‘feelings’ when they see Blk ppl in positions of power but don’t connect it to racism bc they don’t think of themselves as Bad People. Your reframe allows them to see this as a Democracy issue they’re included in.
Imho we're all racist & there are 2 broad categories that can be divided into more: those aware they're racist & those not. And w/in those 2 sets: those who like being racist, neutral to it, don't like it, actively trying to reduce their own racism. Some of these obvi malevolent than others
I agree. White ppl are raised and acculturated within a racist value system, so denying that is profoundly unhelpful. I like the subcategories you broke it up into.
I'm sure there's some more official classifications in CRT, but I never went to grad school. Awareness of racism w/in one's self seems most important, speaking as someone who went NC wth my wh sup side of the family back in the 90s. The awareness is the baseline separation ime
Yes, this will take so long though. Us 'non-racist' wyts still benefit from wh sup in most situations, even if we don't like it or aren't aware. We still aren't even admitting this much. And we're afraid of malevolent racists, esp the ones in own families.
We're where we are because the reactionaries played the long game and have been working at it for at least 50 years. We need to be okay with working our asses off and not seeing any quick, satisfying pay offs. One of the left's biggest flaws has always been impatience. Change takes work - and time.
They don’t really want “merit” they want privilege they don’t like being in competitive with women and people of color so they use the “merit” argument to pretend like white men are innately superior and everyone else is a “ DEI hire”

They don’t care in my experience. Still worth it.
I have been begging Dems to embrace & run on being the party of equal Human & Civil rights for all, for at least a decade.
