whenever a man says “childless women contribute nothing to society,” the ghost of the famously unmarried Jane Austen rises and says, “you are such a disagreeable man that it would be quite a misfortune to be liked by you.”

My favorite poet,
Emily Dickinson, was critical of marriage & believed that it demanded subservience from women & could limit the fulfillment of one's talents. She never married or had children.
100% right.
I've loved ED since 10th grade. Huge influence on me.
Virginia Hall, resistance underground leader in occupied France for OSS and SOE (awarded DSC, Croix de Guerre, and MBE, member Military Intelligence Corps Hall of fame, and the person for whom the CIA’s named is expeditionary training center) would like a word.
What right does anyone have to judge others personal choices in any case?
I wonder how many of the people saying these things about women work in the public sector?
“Elinor agreed to it all, for she did not think he deserved the compliment of rational opposition.” I always imagine this quote sprang directly from Jane’s internal monologue when dealing with boorish men.
A childless woman contributes more to society than any man could ever simply because she’s been groomed to do 2 full time jobs at once. So if she settles on doing *Only* the one job, she can apply that two-job energy & kick ass.

It takes two to tango!
All good people, famous or not, did good in their own way, big or small. They all matter.
To pretend people don't matter, is gaslighting. Even the smallest, matter.

Do people say that (other than a certain scumbag VP nominee)? In this age where overpopulation in affluent areas is killing the planet??? Poor fools.
#ChildlessByChoice #MathDenial is as bad as #ScienceDenial. Arguably worse, as it's more prevalent.
