I rigged my teachers computer to play the Zelda theme song at 10 in the morning
He hit the computer lab emergency switch and yelled at me lol, wouldn't turn it back on for 15 minutes
It was in the pc speaker and he couldn't turn it off.
I'm not saying I used the floppy disks that reset administrator on windows, I don't condone that behavior.
But I'd did make a dozen of those disks and stash them places people would find.
Amazes me when I see people using the mouse to do copy and paste or switching tools in premiere, long time Mac user but started off in MsDOS where keyboard was king. Quicker learn you commands
Everybody is dumb now because they FOLLOW, and the system makes sure there r plenty of "follow" buttons to push for the "enduser".
Devices that r called smart, .. run! they make us lame and lazy in the mind. our minds r no longer evolving properly. Easiest example is the calculator. Our brains omg!
was training someone how to use the terminal on this one machine we repair to run diagnostics and send status updates. He said they used to dial a number on a phone and place it on a modem with two cups. Now it’s a touchscreen with a cpu & telemetry module. Bring the cups back!
They became obsolete because file sizes in the early 2000s ballooned beyond the 1.44 megabytes that floppies of the time could hold. And they quickly ballooned past the 100 megabytes for Zip disks too. Hell, most modern PCs don’t even have DVD drives anymore!
We used to rely on memorization. We knew everyone's phone numbers. We knew addresses & directions. Additition/subtraction/division/multiplication tables so we could do simple math in our heads. We knew how to spell. We used these skills constantly.
The computer has developed its own evolution to all data less space. The primary distinction is density; as we reduce physical dimensions, after sophisticated computational systems A photolithography chip lab, is like the process of t-shirt screen printing in terms of technique and methodology.

Not true. Floppies didn't hold much data. CD burners replaced them. Inbetween that were the Syquest disks, they were very good and could hold a lot of data us graphic designers used to deliver high megabyte jobs to commercial printing companies. We also had the tapes for archival uses.
Having started with computers on the Apple II and the C64, am so happy the floppy and cassette storage went away. Always hated wondering if my data would be there.
Sorry, but the problem is NOT a lack of floppy disks. It is a lack of proper education and an excess of right-wing propaganda. A proper education teaches children the critical thinking skills that are sorely lacking in today's society.
Finally, someone who takes this serious. I'm glad you were here Ed. I was thinking "woah, floppy discs are the secret". But no, your clear headed and clarity orientated mind sobered me of such delusions. I hope with time you'll forgive me, but I may never forgive myself for such foolishness
there is so much compute bought in furtherance of securing more wealth. I think maybe almost all of it. Like who bought compute for fun besides some lousy, idealistic scientists still unbroken by the world

Bigger, better, floppier than ever before
Now the machines do all of our thinking for us.
we are going computer
But we could still get in.
