It’s wild to me that my ps5 dual sense has stopped working (up on d-pad has decided to break) but original ps1 controllers are still going strong. They just don’t make ‘em like they used to 🤣🙌🏼

No exaggeration, I’ve gone through at least 4 dual sense ps5 controllers. Just replaced 2 weeks ago for drift. I swear they must have put these together with peanut butter
Ain't that the truth! The kids ps5 controllers ain't lasted a year...yet here I am with 8 year old PS4 controllers still working fine...yeah but of drift on them like (Totally Destinys fault!) But otherwise doing well!
Not sure if yours fully broke or won’t register but my left on dpad stopped registering. Before throwing it out I disassembled following a YouTube video cleaned some contact pad things in the controller and it started working again! Wasn’t too hard just a lot of screws.
It is the same d pad but I remember the days you could just have a complaint about something and that was that 👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼
I wasn’t looking for a solution or anything I’m aware things break, this status is a reflection on how we all just accept poor quality for our money because “that’s just how it goes”
I got left stick drift on 2 different controllers that is so bad they are unusable... I own about 20 different controllers from PS1 thru 4 that never had a single issue...
I'mma crack em open and swap out the sticks... but I dunno if I got the soldering skills necessary.
You can’t even throw your controller at a wall anymore. Those suckers could take 6-7 hits back then, now? One throw and boom! (Sarcasm for anyone taking it serious) lol
I chucked a PS2 controller at the brick surrounding our wood stove once in a fit of rage because of a stupid Chocobo and its inability to dodge incoming birds. Took a chunk out of the area surrounding the face buttons, but still worked like a champ afterward 😅
old tech, as simple as they can be...
ARE STONKS ASF, when i was at nintendo world in NYC years ago i got to see the og gameboy that still turned on after surviving a bomb blast. Heck, i think my ps2 controller is still going strong too.
My Xbox One controllers would always have problems but it would be the bumper and trigger buttons being 'sticky'. Luckily, I've had very little trouble with the Series X controllers.
Is it the original Dualsense that cake with the system? Mine had finally gotten stickdrift that was bad enough for me to get a new one last summer, and I swear my newer one feels much sturdier.
I've said it about alot of things. Monetization ruins everything. Phones barely lasting 2 years which just happens to be how long your contract is for. I've repaired 3 ps5 controllers now bc batteries die, drift starts occurring, etc. WoTC releasing new DnD stuff to replace the old stuff.
After breaking a DS3 and two DS4s on pc by wearing through the internal components without all that much use... I got fed up and bought an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller with hall effect sensors instead.
2005 was the year hardware reliability died. We went from the original Nintendo DS which could survive a Mount Everest climb to the original 360 which was doomed to failure. Sony and Nintendo have always had some major issue since. MS I’ll give that the XB1 was rock solid and the SS/SX seem reliable
I got an elite 2 after that because they said it was more reliable and imma be honest that one broke shortly too lol. I am not buying those things anymore
I just can't justify spending over $100 on a controller unless it's something specialized like an arcade stick. I don't do competitive gaming so feels unnecessary to me.
I think its an extreme luxury that is maybe not worth the price, but I play a LOT of video games, so something i hold in my hands so frequently I like it to be as comfy as I can. But I acknowledge its a hefty premium.
But after getting a dualsense edge when I got the 30th anniversary PS5-
Yeah, meant the regular controller. My 2015 XB1 controller still works like a champ even if I had to buy covers for the wearing analog sticks. I haven't bothered with these premium controllers.
My dual senses always have random buttons that stop working. I have 5 controllers and each one has a random button that just stopped registering. I haven't bought a new controller or played the ps5 since bc I'm scared to get another 🙃
Omg that’s so bad!! I’ve been really lucky with mine and this is the first issue but like… I paid loads for this controller it should last. 😂 it’s crazy how often I see people complaining about PlayStation controllers it’s a damn joke isn’t it
Yep, nowadays is a roll of the dice. I had 3 ps4 controllers. The one that came on the box died 2 years in, bought a new one and it lasted about 4/5 years until the exact same problem the first one had started to happen, bought another another one, in the same year both stick started to drift.
It sucks. Ever since the PS3 controller quality has gone down. Or maybe the complexity went up and electronics wear and tear easily. But still sucks since these controllers cost so much now
Ziggy hit with the "back in my days" but its true af
New tech is so fragile and dont last long at time. Sometimes I feel companies are deliberately making products like that so we have buy more 😭
I think it’s more the attitude of consumers has changed for the worse, “well it’s more complicated so more can go wrong…” right, but if I’m paying for the working product, I expect a working product 🤣🤣🤣 people would just stop buying the product until they were forced to do better but now … damn 🥲
Hahaha same in regards to printers 😂 I lost my faith in people when ticket master introduced dynamic ticket pricing and I was like NAAAAHH THATLL NEVER WORK and oasis sold out 🧍🏼♀️
Ironically, yeah. Cause my old ps2 controllers worked for more than 15 years while my 20th anniversary dualshock controller stopped working after like 5-6 years. Back then tech lasted longer xD
As my grandparents and father used to all say, It’s basically like cars. The older simpler ones run forever but the new luxury ones have too many gadgets and parts which means more things to go wrong😂.
That's crazy. Shits mad expensive and made cheap as fk just to get us to keep periodically buying controllers. Wouldn't be as expensive if they weren't loaded down with tech that only 4 games will ever fully utilize.
Like wow I really like the lights and sirens on the controller only when I play GTA. Neat feature that gives me a good 5 minutes of battery life per charge lok
I take super good care of my controllers, but my DualSense that originally came with my PS5 finally gave up on me a couple of months ago with a similar issue - down on the d-pad stopped working properly, it'd either not press at all, or act like a turbo button 🤦😩
I mean, how awful is that? Because right up until PS5, Controllers would take a complete bashing & yet last forever. Is it some money making scam to have controllers made THAT flimsy?🤷♀️
I started buying cheap off-brand controllers because I figured that the official ones are breaking too often anyway nowadays. And I’m not at all rough with them or anything, I don’t smash buttons or rage throw them or anything. Too old for that lol

But you’re right they don’t make them like they used to.
My PS2 controllers are still going strong after the GOW qte mashing days
My PS3 controllers are still going strong after the toddler throwing and chewing on them days
Step up your game PS5 controllers!
I’ve got controllers from the pre disc era that still work damnit.
Meanwhile my Elite 2 Xbox controller had to be sent away for repairs because clicking in the right analog stick too hard caused it to turn off 🥴
Either way the entire controller is tho = greater possibility of things going wrong
All part of being a gamer.
Or, a car owner. 🤣
I wasn’t looking for a solution or anything I’m aware things break, this status is a reflection on how we all just accept poor quality for our money because “that’s just how it goes”
That aside - hope you work things out with your complaint!
Not sure what the hell I did to my Xbox controller but the RB bumper feels like it’s going to fall out 😅
Also I have 4 switch pro controllers and 3 of them drift. Don't even get me started on my joycons.
and they have the audacity to make these bad boys EXPENSIVE
I'mma crack em open and swap out the sticks... but I dunno if I got the soldering skills necessary.
Yes I have PTSD from those birds.
ARE STONKS ASF, when i was at nintendo world in NYC years ago i got to see the og gameboy that still turned on after surviving a bomb blast. Heck, i think my ps2 controller is still going strong too.
Old ones were like weapons, and strangely no stick drift?
I'll get the stamps.
I feel you on the actual console though.
But after getting a dualsense edge when I got the 30th anniversary PS5-
Every PS1, 2, and 3 controller is fine.
New tech is so fragile and dont last long at time. Sometimes I feel companies are deliberately making products like that so we have buy more 😭
I also had stick drift once ever in my long gaming lifetime.
Stupid Switch Joycons...
Remedy was to just not use them ever again and got a Pro Pad.
I don't think I ever had a single issue with Sony pads, I guess I'm lucky? Even the PS2 ones still work.
We really are our own downfall 😭
I take super good care of my controllers, but my DualSense that originally came with my PS5 finally gave up on me a couple of months ago with a similar issue - down on the d-pad stopped working properly, it'd either not press at all, or act like a turbo button 🤦😩
And it is still mostly intact (except my fighting game one the buttons on that are knackered from HellSweeps and 10 Strings)
Flogged them on eBay as parts and got £20 each for them. Better than nothing but still annoying they keep breakin
