In BLUEPRINT FOR REVOLUTION, the author (a Serbian who led resistance against Milosevic) gives a lot of examples. Including the way they encouraged graffiti of their logo, which let people know that there *was* resistance. Highly recommend this book--it's a genuinely fun read, too.

I just finished Madeline Albright's "Fascism: A Warning" which was a fairly comprehensive review of regimes over the 1900s and absolutely chilling.
