Maybe it’s because I’m not a newspaper columnist but I genuinely cannot fathom how you can actually think “this guy is a misogynist, racist, and a sexual predator, but he’s right about trans people” without any self-reflection on whether you might be wrong about us

Like having an open racist as a neighbor, but hey, you both love dogs, so he can't be all bad, right?
Trump believes all sorts of wild and irrational things about other minorities (they’re eating the dogs) so where are all the wild and irrational things he believes about trans people? What’s the deal? He’s stopping himself - no I’ll be measured?
Trump’s policies will harm every other minority he targets but none of his trans policies will harm trans people. Really? So again only for trans people he chose policies that don’t cause harm. Or maybe he did try to adopt policies to target trans people and messed up? Come on.
1. (As you said) maybe what’s going on is your views about trans people are wild and irrational which is why you don’t spot it in Trump in this one case.
2. Trans people are going to be harmed by Trump’s policies even if that’s something you’d really rather not think about.
"We need more hospital beds" yes, but also what's your underlying ideological motivation?
"Safety standards for X needs to Y" ...okay I need to investigate this from every angle.
If you can donate to help, I’d encourage you to do so.

Like perhaps there's overlap between their sexism and definitions? Maybe?
