If you want younger apolitical people to be less conservatively inclined, you’re going to have to present all historical facts and politics as “tea” and “gossip”. I have tried this and annoyingly, it works very well.

Or as their parents and grandparents we need to teach them about the civic responsibility of voting! 90 million young people did not vote in this election!
This seems to be working on my Republican father. He starts a political conversation, and I say, "Have you heard..." to drop in some horrific on topic fact to ante up.
I read history nonfiction and sometimes refer to it in my head as tabloids (Princesses Behaving Badly by McRobbie) or deep-dives (Burning the Books by Ovenden)

When someone deems information inessential, it's often forgotten.
Saying "history teaches past errors/horrors + ways to advance" gets attention. My history + "The Past As" poems get into that.
