Please consider the institutional knowledge being drained from the department with downsizing. Instead pf proceeding with RIFs, implement a 12 month hiring freeze to allow savings while retaining what little knowledge remains.

I have been in touch with Regional leadership and they are still sifting through the wreckage to figure out what their options might be, at this point. The folks I worked with are top notch and will find a way to navigate a path forward. Give them time. Focus on what you CAN do on/for your refuges.

Not a federal employee, but if said leaders were career normals, I would tell them to delay, defend, and diffuse. Don't give them a reason to get rid of you and support what and who you can, when you can. If they were fascist Trump/Musk plants, I would tell them to eat shit and die screaming. 😱

We’ve been way past the point where cutting budgets and staff will increase efficiency for the last few years. We need more investment, stability, support & then you’ll see how much we can get done. FWS staff are good at our jobs and we’re creative. Bring us into convos about improvements.

We need admin staff. And some idea of a timeline of the start of the RIF for us. My group lost 2/3 of our staff - including all of our office admin staff - to the 2 rounds of DRP/VERA.
