Plant friends, anyone have luck with grinding tough (think, fibrous/lignin) tissue for molecular work using a mill/tissue grinder? If so can you share what you use? Liquid N2 works for us but takes a long time. π§ͺπΎ

I use a Genogrinder with stainless steel grinding balls, with freeze-dried or liquid N2 frozen tissue. Pricey, but part of my start-up way back when. Tbh it's basically a paint shaker.
Hmmm weβve done phragmites but thatβs nowhere near yucca. We have to cut horizontally across the leaves into small pieces to help with homogenization. I wonder if that + liquid N2 or lyophilization + grinding with steel balls might help?
We use a TissueLyser ball mill but have never seen a succulent go through one. Definitely works well for Eucalypts and other tough leaves. I suspect yukka is pretty challenging and would benefit from using heavy balls.
