I'd argue that the Democrats are now the conservative party, they want to preserve the system as it is. Just fix some things and maybe patch some leaks.

Even when that system has only worked by ignoring the horrific results it naturally produces.

This is incredible because leftists hated him for years because of his policies, the thing that brought him down was libs souring on him because of his personal conduct (which was also insanely bad and disqualifying, don't get me wrong)
