Our neighbours have a green roof on their shed which is a favourite sunbathing spot for local foxes. Once saw a magpie hopping around in front of the fox while it's partner snuck up behind and tweaked its tail. Magpies always win

Magpies rule in Australia as well, very intelligent and societal except when in swooping guard mode, occurring during nesting period.
Being the subject of a swoop for the first time is definitely a “hit the dirt” “WTF” experience.
Causes more PTSD over here than snake encounters.

That's a lot of deer Bill! They look good with the snow too! Oh the foxes were just hanging around the garden sitting down so I just put my camera up to the window and snapped away! They didn't move an inch, not bothered by me at all. In fact at one stage I waved to get it to look at me 😂

Really that's awesome! Magpie's are incredibly smart and considered one of the smartest animals in the world. They are aware of themselves and that is less common. Here we have crows, similar like them, that memorized me after years and feel comfortable with me sitting in their territory. Love that.

My gf had a cross species battle with a magpie. It walked into the bedroom from the roof and wanted to pick up some shiny stuff from a basket in the window sill. My gf heroically pushed the magpie, which didn't intend to leave emptybeaked, out with a book and closed the window.

I don't know what to think of magpies. Got a few couples hanging around here; they scare away the redbreasts, tits and other smaller birds which are way cuter. But they are always in pairs.
