NASA looks to be a few days behind everyone else. Folks in communities that have already been impacted- what are you doing to support each other? What do you wish you’d had prepared for when the layoffs hit?

And for those at Goddard, there are town halls with our representatives on Wednesday in Montgomery County and I believe being scheduled in PG county (check the local Democratic Committee website).
If I were in NASA at the moment, I would be backing up all the research and work I would need if NASA didn't exist, including all career related information. And if I knew people who were backing up research data I would be reaching out to them. And I would join a union, and get a employment lawyer.
We also appreciate everyone’s patience as we work on unrelated technical issues stemming from high traffic. Our goal is to support scientists and we work very hard to do so, that is always our main priority ❤️
I know, we’ve just received some emails from concerned users including one that asked if we were intentionally doing something to halt scientific progress through technical difficulties, so I wanted to say something to the effect of ‘absolutely not’ 🥲
We are working as a team and with partners to identify opportunities to bolster ADS/SciX, we are not currently at any risk but we are taking steps to proactively discuss mitigation strategies that would enable us to continue supporting our communities.
I'm just a bystander to how it's going at USDA for a loved one, but: give friends and family who can support you a heads up, whether you're at higher risk or not, because watching colleagues get these letters is also painful.
Expect firing letters may claim it's for poor performance; it's a lie but it still hurts. My loved one wrote an email to friends and family about what is happening, and had her wife pass on some updates because it is exhausting to go through. Hope these help; so much love.
It will hurt, it will damage who you belief to be. It’s
like loosing a friend. You‘ll might be angry and mourning. Your friends and neighbours see and feel the same old you. You‘ll mourn your job, the bonusses it has.
You will detect yourself again. Some Are fast, some slower. It‘s OK.
All the best
You might not be able to think properly. Waiting to understand what happened to you. Get professional help, if you don’t know how to share this with your loved ones, best friends, as you don’t know yourself. It‘s a trauma.
Be ensured You’ll get through to yourself again, create a benefit again.
I got laid off some years ago together with more than 100 others. It took a while. I needed help and accepted to get it.
Then I got a bit better, got able to apply again.
I found a job, I like. I am fine again.

I'm terrified, but also hopeful.
