I'm sorry. Scientists saw this nebula and decided to call it the ring nebula?
I mean, the lips nebula, the eye of Sauron nebula, the vagina nebula, the red slit nebula, or anything else. Because that doesn't look like a ring at all.
@emily.space The JWST Feed page stopped giving attribution for many images (at least the official releases).
Maybe it's time for an official warning since they are posting to the #Astronomy feed...
Thank you.
It's sad that this page has deteriorated so much since its inception. Makes me very cautious about any sort science news/feed account for which I don't know exactly who is running it and what their intentions are.
Some of us are not experts but appreciate the wonders of the Universe.. please don't go elitist on us. I wouldn't call it detioration as I would call it seeking wisdom from experts like y'all. Just a hillbilly from TN.
The images that the JWST feed is posting do not just immediately come out of the telescope - they have to be painstakingly processed by someone, often amateur astronomers doing it for free. It's only fair that they get credit for their work.
Comments
I need to get out more.
Chicken butt!
NASAβs James Webb Space Telescope obtained images of the Ring Nebula, one of the best-known examples of a planetary nebula. ..."

Because that looks like an anus that just had a galaxy brained idea.
Resist

Please *always* credit whoever processed them - it's not good enough to just say that it's a JWST image.
It took me ~60 seconds to find who to credit for this image - it is not difficult.
Also paging @danirabaiotti.bsky.social as these posts break science feed rules too AFAIK.
1. An eye
2. [REDACTED]

I don't mind saying that, now that I've read enough of the comments to reassure myself that everyone else thinks it's something worse.
