Please send me some suggestions for transmasc media like movies or books etc. Please repost if so inclined! I’ve been looking and have found some stuff but not much and it’s gotta be out there

@wolfehorror.bsky.social has some very fun trans man & masc MCs: https://wolfehorror.itch.io/. Lots of body horror <3.
Body After Body by @flameswallower.bsky.social is a really great gorey sci-fi novella with a trans man MC: https://flameswallower.itch.io/body-after-body. Their other work is also great!
The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion by @margaret.bsky.social features a trans man SC that plays a role in the later novellas as well.
Infinity Mathing at the Shore & other Disruptions by @mlopesdasilva.bsky.social is a very good horror short story collection with many trans characters.
Transmutation Stories by @alessandrostardust.bsky.social is a fantasy/horror short story collection with two really interesting trans man MCs, but many of the short stories explore transformation.
Junker Seven by @olivejkelley.bsky.social is a really good sci-fi revolution story with a nonbinary MC.
Synthetic Sea by @franklynnewt.bsky.social is a really great t4t (trans man & nonbinary) cyberpunk sci-fi romance mystery. https://franklynnewt.itch.io/synthetic-sea
X by @daveydavis.bsky.social has my absolute favorite worstie MC, who is horrible, but I love them <3
Lupus in Fabula by @flameswallower.bsky.social is an incredible trans horror short story collection with very fun messy characters.
Prokaryote Season by @leofox.io is a very good graphic novel about horrible trans characters in a dystopian world. I love them!
@beauvandalen.bsky.social writes really good trans romantasy (+ more, but I've only read his romantasy so far :D) https://beauvdalen.itch.io
Calling My Deadname Home by Avi Ben-Zeev is a really good gay trans memoir written by an anti-zionist trans man who grew up in Israel.
Kind of the same problem as Titaine (based on your description; I am not familiar), but the Radiant King duology is kind of a Mulan situation and plays in the gender space. I'd say it's definitely transmasc in a nonbinary way, if not in a trans man way, but that may just be my reading of it
There's a whole genre in Chinese lesbian webnovels of crossdressing women who are perfectly fine with a masculine role and presentation but still identify internally as a woman. I get the impression that Parker-Chan is tapping into that trope
It’s a space a lot of transmascs have inhabited, regardless of gender. But when you want full acknowledgment of masculine gender the genre doesn’t generally go there.
If you like that sort of thing, tho, might I suggest Purely By Accident, as translated by @douqi.bsky.social
Oh yes some are! But I also have just a bunch of transmasc recs in general? Not sure if I have a list somewhere... There's also cool stuff I reprinted in Transcendent 2-4.
Don't miss Look Who's Morphing by Tom Cho, I think you might especially like it, and it's not very well-known & a bit older.
if you haven’t read any of Lee Mandelo’s stuff yet, I highly recommend. I finished The Woods All Black recently and there’s a hot monsterfucking scene between a butch and his trans boy lover. TJ Alexander has a transmasc Regency, A Gentleman’s Gentleman, coming out in March.
Okay! Please forgive the length of this thread 😭I love this topic
Adult Fiction:
- Unkindness of Ghosts, by Rivers Solomon (sci-fi on a generation ship)
- Peter Darling, by Austin Chant (Peter Pan/Captain Hook)
- Confessions of a Fox, by Jordy Rosenberg (18th c. trans thief)
Adult Fic (cont.)
- Nettleblack, by Nat Reeve (queer Victorian farce with self-discovery)
- HIM, by Geoff Ryman (Jesus is a trans man¡?)
- The Four Profound Weaves, by RB Lemberg (fantasy novella)
- Notes from a Regicide, by Isaac Fellman (sci fi, forthcoming in April)
Manga:
- Wandering Son (classic coming of age story; 15 vol in jp, translated up to v8 in eng)
- Boys Run the Riot (trans teen starts his own clothing line. 4 volumes, all translated)
- Heavenly Delusion (sci-fi post apocalyptic, tw for sexual assault in v6, 11 jp vol, ongoing translation)
Also I know a well-meaning person will suggest Titaine and a) I have seen it and love it and b) I do not think it is a movie about a trans person at all. It is a VERY good movie about gender performance and presentation and I love it for that!
(If anything, it’s got consequences of what happens when someone has to live as the wrong gender + cis people having gender-affirming treatments. Both interesting)
Unfortunately the two trans masc characters I’m thinking of… they are a minor character and their identity I love because it’s so normalized that literally the fact they aren’t cis is only mentioned once as it pertains to an interaction or a dynamic where it’s important.
Walther Davies in October Daye stories by Seanan McGuire isn’t even mentioned as trans for his first few books he appears. The fact he’s trans isn’t important to the characters he’s just a guy… of Noble birth who is a chemistry prof
Recommending my queer equestrian lit featuring a transmasc hero (romantic elements-ish at the moment) and my free portal serial which also features a transmasc hero (and UNICORNS!) with romantic elements for a gay polycule but very slow burn/limited so far.
hello, my series features a trans man character. He's an very important non-POV character in book one, and gets promoted to main character for books 2 and 3!
If you like murder, magic, and kissing, check it out! Series opener linked here.
Future feeling by joss lake, dead collections by Isaac fellman, confessions of the fox by jordy rosenberg, we both laughed in pleasure: diaries of Lou sullivan, slingshot by cyree jarelle johnson, boy island by Leo fox
Hell Followed With Us, The Spirit Bares Its Teeth, and Compound Fracture all have great transmasc characters. They’re YA but pretty unflinching horror, imo.
Sordidez by EG Conde is very good. If you don't mind that it's a very YA example of YA, Cemetery Boys is fun and cute, and I think the author's more high fantasy, less high school stuff is also heavy on transmasc characters?
Have you read anything by Lee Mandelo? His prose makes me want to lick the page. The Woods All Black is explicitly about historical trans masculinity. While Summer Sons has a trans side character, it's about queer awakenings, masculinity in general, the horrors of academia, and grief.
I wouldn’t have recommended that as a transmasc focused story, although I would sincerely love a gender plague subversion that actually focused on trans men
- Water into Wine, Joyce Ch'ng
- The Bruising of Qilwa, Naseem Jamnia
- The Deep Sky (mostly secondary characters), Yume Kitasei
- The Raven Tower, Ann Leckie
- The Four Profound Weaves, RB Lemberg
- The Black Tides of Heaven, Neon Yang
- Phoenix Extravagant, Yoon Ha Lee
- also the second 2 books in Machineries of Empire have a POV transmasc character, Yoon Ha Lee
- iirc the nonbinary hacker in The Kuiper Belt Job is transmasc?
I know I'm forgetting some, will add as I remember

I have other reccs, but I need to know if a) you count butch dykes under “transmasc” and b) want fiction or nonfiction
