Pretty good advice. One other thing to take is an umbrella. Good against sun, rain, pepper spray, people taking too many photos, hiding, slowing police down.

I have been to MANY protests, none of them were violent. You are scaring people into thinking they are all like SOME BLM protests devolved to - not the ones I saw or went to which were peaceful. If protests start being cracked down on it will be. That would be a mistake by the regime - it always is. So is protests getting violent because of agitators. That is designed to turn people off and it only helps the Government, it's a well known tactic too. Anyway, just a thought.

Scaring people into thinking they'll be arrested brutalized or surrounded by violence isn't the way to get people to go to a protest it's the way to get them not to. Stress non-violence - protests are really fun when they are, they are a unifying moment that makes you feel powerful.

I spoke to a woman in her 60s attending her first protest with friends. Someone told her to write her name and phone number on her arm. She was terrified. I told her I have gone to many many protests all peaceful no need to worry. Police brutality hasn't happened, may later, would be a mistake

Plenty of the non-violent protests turned violent due to the police. Remembering the elder who was knocked flat to the ground and the veteran who got beat with billy clubs for asking a question. People lost eyes. It’s is essential to be prepared.
