I read “Prequel” by Rachel Maddow, then followed it up with a fascinating but sad book about a family with 12 children, half of whom came down with schizophrenia called “Hidden Valley Road: Inside the Mind of an American Family" by Robert Kolker. Just started “Abundance” by Ezra Klein.
The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa, a small book with a unique and layered story. Almost finished with The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson and it is fascinating.He is the best at narrative historical non-fiction. Next is Anita de Monte Laughs Last by Xochitl Gonzalez & Katalina.
It's an oldie but a goodie: 1632 by Eric Flint. It's the best work of fiction I have ever read, and would enthusiastically call it the best fiction book of the 21st century so far. And it has multiple branching arcs for sequels, depending on your interests. CW: some gendered violence early in
I usually read Western fiction. But a non-western book that’s pretty gruesome but full of suspense and will keep u turning pages is: The Man Burned by Winter (Pete Zacharias). My favorite Western writer is Louis L’Amour. Start with the Sacketts series of 19 books.
