I agree that the highest risk along the west coast and even in Hawaii can be viewed as seasonal. Were the LA fires an exception or an indication that the season has been extended? If not for recent snow and rain in the LA mountains, the danger would be extreme.

The LA fires are driven by the Santa Anna winds and they can be year round but usually worse September to May and if it’s a dry year they can cause fires even in the winter. I’m sure climate change has made the Southern California fires worse too.

Many towns and counties depend on the National Park system for their local economies. And NPS is less than 0.1% of the federal budget.

These indiscriminate cuts make absolutely no sense.
