My old cat has developed a new habit of doing a siren meow when he doesn't know where I am; I call back to him, and he comes over It's a little like playing Marco Polo tbh

So, I just want to put out that there are virtues to writing old-fashioned letters and cards nowadays: • Gets you off line. • Helps you craft thoughts carefully and purposefully. • Fun to receive. • Physically exist. • Can be pretty. • More personal and meaningful than email. Give it a try.

In case you all didnt know this about me yet

Local planners: 7 years and $1.2 million. #Beavers: just vibes and sticks. Nature's engineers get it done. No permits required

Marjorie Taylor Greene buying Apple, Pi, Qualcomm, Dell, Amazon, and Lam stocks seems a lot more sus before the tariff exemptions on electronics components, smartphones, semiconductors, and computers. Martha Stewart would like a word.

I have a new favorite Reddit post.

One President wildly exceeded his authority by forgiving some student loans; a different President barely scratched the surface of his authority by disappearing anyone he pleases without trial to a foreign gulag. Constitutional law is a serious intellectual enterprise.

"On Tyranny" is a #1 NYT bestseller again. I wish the moment were different. But I’m glad the book is useful. And grateful for all the kind words about putting the 20 lessons to work. snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

"Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name." -- John Stuart Mill (1867)

I do need everyone to understand that they have not yet exempted bananas from the tariffs. There are still tariffs on bananas. We are still tariffing the fucking bananas we cannot even grow here.

A helpful guide to the current state of US trade policy:

NEW: For months, @juliaangwin.com and I have been interviewing foreign dissidents and opposition leaders. Today The New Yorker published our practical guide to courage in Trump's age of fear. If you want to oppose authoritarianism, but fear for your job, freedom, or way of life, this is for you 🧵:

these are agencies where he already has a voting majority to do whatever they want this is real scorched earth shit they really are stripping consumer protection, labor rights, environmental protection and corporate oversight down to the studs

Earlier this year, employees began to fear bad actors, could target people for punishment by declaring them dead: “Anybody granted the appropriate permissions within Social Security could mark someone as dead, employees had realized, without having to prove their demise in any way” wapo.st/3RKSQQt

Absolutely colossal news

WOW ! it has really grown !!

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act. Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes? Staffer: a DL and birth certificate. Me: The documents don’t match Staffer: Then a marriage certificate. Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too? Staffer: No Me: See the problem?

When creating advanced A1 technology capabilities, you must have full steak developers that know what they’re doing. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article...

Not for nothing, but how, exactly, is it legal to send people for *punishment* in a foreign prison (esp with no due process)? Were the funds being used for it appropriated for this purpose? I feel this has just become a thing no one questions

What is the best possible use of my time today, and more importantly, what can be done to avoid it? #procrastination #productivity

Very informative chart from Washington Post

Forcing people to pay $130 for a passport in order to vote is just a Jim Crow poll tax by another name. It is blatantly unconstitutional.

What could *possibly* go wrong??

During a panel on artificial intelligence in education, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon *repeatedly* referred to "AI" as "A1" -- like the steak sauce. Proving yet again that the only person Donald Trump ever hired who was actually qualified to do their job was Stormy Daniels.

The President’s unprecedented Executive Order yesterday targeting Messrs. Chris Krebs and Miles Taylor for nothing but the exercise of their First Amendment rights is the President’s most constitutionally corrupt Executive Order to date.

It is a small but genuine comfort that the Supreme Court did not completely eviscerate the Fifth Amendment in the Abrego Garcia case. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

🚨House Republicans just passed a bill that would disenfranchise 70 million married American women. Under the SAVE Act, women who took their spouse’s last name and don't have an updated passport or birth certificate would be turned away at the polls.

Just heard an NPR segment where someone refused to give their last name "out of fear of retaliation from the federal government."

okay now that you all have gotten a taste of America's rational and predictable new trade policy, everyone who wants to build your new factories here just form an orderly line

I have zero expertise on the markets, but I know this is bad.

“Living people who the government believes should be treated as if they are dead” is a gasp-worthy concept with far-reaching potential applications.

I am absolutely not a fan of this man, that said, he’s completely correct and the messaging here is 💯

It just occurred to me that we probably don't manufacture municipal water treatment chemicals domestically, either.

Marjorie Taylor Greene bought $275K in stocks after tariffs were announced. Interesting timing, huh? Martha Stewart went to prison for far less.

Utah Governor Cox and the the radical right legislature did same with state public employees and teacher and firefighters etc... The people of Utah are fighting back www.sltrib.com/news/politic...

If you have little kids, now is a good time to make sure you have a spare bottle of fever reducer for them. You don't know what a nailbiter it is running out and finding none on the shelves, until one day you do.

USPS’s universal service obligation means letter carriers keep every community & business in every zip code connected. Postal privatization threatens that service across America. Tell Congress to ensure a strong, public USPS through H.Res. 70/S.Res. 147: nalc.org/action
