(second pic – 1946-ish RAF photograph. I'd thought that this particular pond was oddly circular and this proved why. I feel that away from memorials and war films, it's good to reflect on how we still live with the consequences of the Second World War, in physical space and national psyche)

I thought of this thread while out walking the dog at the weekend. We came across this quadrant tower, the only one remaining of the set, off a footpath by Carsington Water in Derbyshire. In the 40s & before the reservoir, it was used by the RAF to sight practice bombing runs down Henmore Valley.

Indeed, can be very trivial too. Lots of suspiciously low walls around here that once supported iron railings - “pots and pans into spitfires and hurricanes”, and all that.

There's a wall near the back of the British Museum that I think tells the tale of two world wars.

Railings removed, then the stumps taken out and those holes filled in. And a fresh set of stumps from new (interwar years?) railings that were never replaced.

I grew up in the 60s/70s near one of the bunkers that was built for Churchill's 'suicide squads,' the men the country would have to rely on if D-Day failed. We played in it every day possible, not knowing its secret which wasn't made public until about ten years ago.

Hi Sam, not a grid ref but here’s a Google maps pin. It’s a little off where the main V-2 website says one landed but I don’t think you can mistake the crater (I’d a big thread on how I worked it out on Twitter but have deactivated). Do you research these things?
