Really, the discrepancy lies in the patriarchal way we collectively view (cis het) relationships.

To be in a (cis het) relationship fundamentally has different meaning depending the gender you are. Not only because of double standards but also gender roles.

Being patriarchal, a man will naturally get more out of the relationship than a woman. Hence the paradigm of a woman being the prize in the monomyth.

Applying this to the dating market, you’d naturally have more men being eager to participate, thus creating this discrepancy.
