Incredulous, honestly, at the number of Sensible Centrists who are trying to justify the Met forcing their way into a religious space to arrest people who had not actually committed a crime at the time of arrest

Centrists, by definition, don't have any actual political ideals -- they float between two poles and if one of the poles skews hard-right, they have to move hard-right to stay in the middle. They are people who've defined their politics via the fallacy of the golden mean.
They also arrested a journalist who was there to document their meeting apparently, and a couple other people who weren't even there including a guy who was just in his home. Arrested 'preventively' as if that was totally normal. Europe's on fascism highway and people still acting like we're not.
American here and I had to read the article twice because my disbelief was so high. It sounds like something that would happen in the USA or Russia. I'm astonished it happened in the UK. And these people are Quakers! Non-violence is a major component of their lives.
You can starve and bomb a nation being ethnically cleansed during their holy fasting month, then fire tear gas at them when they visit the graves of their family members to mark the end of that month, but you can't organise a meeting in a Western democracy to peacefully protest against this.
A "suspect" can be arrested if the Police suspect they have commited a crime. The criteria for reasonable suspicion should be Court Proof. It should stand in Court. They may still be in error however. As far as being immune from arrest in a Holy place i don't think that applies anywhere anymore.
Same here, and I did it again on this post as I was trying to envision what could lead to beef between Metropolitan Museum of Art security & local Quakers.
Like Socially liberal but fiscal conservatives. Just another lie to cover the truth about people who know they’re wrong but can’t give up jumping the GOP. It’s all they’ve known their entire lives. They just don’t want to be made fun of by non morons.
It's because they did it when Red Team (good) are in power. If Blue Team (bad) were in power it would be very bad and a crisis for democracy, or some shite
Arguments that have been made at me in support of the Met include “what if they’d been accused of sexual assault” “what’s so special about religious spaces” and “we only have the Quakers’ side of the story”
But also: how can you not be horrified that police forced their way into a religious space and arrested six women accused of nothing more than discussing an activist campaign? How is that not beyond the pale for you?
Had a nightmare earlier from an awful person who called me "a fucking idiot", and when I said if you went up to someone in a pub and said that you'd get punched, her and some Salacious Crumb accused me of threatening them. All 'this is how the world is, naive fool' yet unable to cope with the world.
She'd had a go at me and someone else earlier for saying that not paying taxes makes the country a worse place so it does affect rich people even if they think they're insulated from it. Similar 'I am worldly-wise and you are fluffy fools' stuff. So I reckon it's 'I ain't afraid of no God...
... coupled with 'don't you realise these people must have been dangerous criminals?' Thinking they're all hard-bitten and tough and university of life and that bollocks. "You are so foolish and naive, unlike me."
What bugs me especially about this one is you don't have to like or agree with religion to recognise that there's been a long history of religious persecution and that's why people get upset by that element.
Because as we all know religious spaces have no cultural significance and are wholly unimportant to the vast number people who use them who will certainly have no opinion about their being stormed by armed agents of the state.
The Quakers have a lot of respect from atheists I know for their thoughtful and non adversarial approach to faith and commitment to non-violent protest, so this police action seems transgressive even to people of no religion.
Centrists suddenly discover their inner authoritarian when it's someone else's sacred space being violated? The same folks who'd have the vapors if this happened at their church find ways to explain why police barging into a mosque is just good sense.
There's a very good video posted on Instagram by Quakers in Britain about the issues involved, and especially why it's so chilling in terms of the right to protest (something Quakers were already campaigning about). https://www.instagram.com/reel/DHyfmlah89B/?igsh=MXV4eHZnN2FkMG5peg==
“Sensible centrists” ….. imho and as proven over and over there is no such thing as “Centrists”. They are right wingers with faux sad face and when asked, always choose the right. Always. So that makes them right wingers who want to seem like they care but they really dont.
Virtually all who inhabit “religious spaces” are absolutely criminals who haven’t been caught yet raping children, trafficking them, given them drugs and on and on and on.

I know the Meeting House on Euston Rd is/was used to host all sorts of stuff by all sorts of people.
It is the raid on the meeting that is the problem.
The attack on free speech and legitimate dissent and assembly.
Not the Venue.
At this point, if one is not overtly anti-fascist…
Then one is accommodating the fascist collapse of the US as a collaborator.
So, you DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT "RELIGION" IS ALL ABOUT, .... is that right?
"religion" is in actuality, a *SOCIO-POLITICAL IDEOLOGY [SPI]*
Don't be STUPID and try to argue this. THE BIBLE proves you wrong.
You mean "Collaborators".
"I'm not a nazi, I just think we should try to work with them."
Thanks Chuck.
They're trying to steal the multi-generational homes of everyone who lives on land that they want.
It's cowardice

Can we not just call tossers "tossers" without pretending that centrists are all tossers or that there are no leftist tossers?
The UK is very, very lost right now. Purity drives will not bring it back.
