You know what I really badly want in the next Souls game?
Sen's Fortress 2.0
We need a proper house of traps and scary bridges with the design effort that goes into a "legacy dungeon".

It gave me anxiety just thinking about it now 🤣 but I agree. I would love to have that crazy multi level compact space type house of horrors set in a Gothic castle. And it had such fun secrets too.
Then have a dragon blast fire down the hallway with a single place to hide from it.
Oh, and this is right before a bonfire, so it’s a long run back.
Also, to pass, gotta kill dragon.
B: I always loved Sen's Fortress. It gives me Zelda dungeon vibes in the best way.
They've become too obsessed on hyperfocusing on the combat system as a response/result of absolutely every form of conflict. They've even done away with interesting one-off "gimmick" bosses.
It's done. That era of Souls design is over.
It was so different to everything else -- it STILL is! How it repeatedly throws the rulebook out the window if it means making a more memorable moment.
I'll say it: I miss that Miyazaki.
...
*sigh*.
Really annoying the second.
I feel like traps in DS are generally underdeveloped.
*Paranoia*
'You got this far with muscle, how sharp's your brain?'
Places like the Chalice Dungeons of BB and the Catacombs of ER sometimes have traps reminiscent of Sen's, but I'm hoping for a proper level that goes all in on the idea.
I need that infuriating Indiana Jones-esque trial again.
Seeing you mention this, its super surprising we didn't get one in ER.
We 'kinda' got that from the Graves, but nothing as concentrated as Sen's Fortress.
Those were the best parts of DeS, DS1, and to a lesser extent DS2, and then since Bloodborne it feels like From has abandoned them in favor of big open arenas
And you know what? Put it in a poison swamp. Not only do you need to dodge enemies and the environment actively killing you, you need to avoid the poison build-up passively killing you too.
It's already one of the better legacy dungeons in the game but like most of them you're never forced into a difficult situation like in Sen's Fortress , Blight Town, or Anor Londo.
In Leyndell you can run past the Avatar which appears on the main road, in Anor Londo there is no running past the silver knights on the buttresses.
Making invisible tiles that can instantly kill you is not good, for example
I really hope Fromsoft comes back to King's Field now that they've done a new (and great) Armored Core.
