Calling yourself an "empath" is basically just a rebranding of calling yourself a psychic.
No, you don't possess a supernatural intuition of others' emotions.
Anyone who ever claims this about themselves is either delusional or lying.

The way my face drops when someone self-identifies as "an empath."
It so often matches up with people who are so lacking in self-awareness that they're basically known for that in their social circle, but they nonetheless will make the most confident claims about the mental state of others.

But like, to the point of giving yourself a title for it? Huge red flag and I'd assume you're not above-average at reading emotions, honestly.
But some random TikToker will believe they're capable because they think they just have the right vibe? Lol, no.
And someone COULD be correct about them being more empathetic than others around them. Say, someone who isn't a bigot, who grew up with a family of bigots and hasn't yet fully escaped that.
But it would be good to understand why you feel that way instead of thinking it's a special ability.
Whenever I see self applied titles like that, my brain screams narcissism or "I'm X so you can't yell at me/you have to respect me without knowing me."
