The more I see of Aetherdrift, the more I dislike the set. I'm always hyped for new Magic cards, but the cringe level is too high for my tastes. Oddly, it makes me more hyped for Universes Beyond sets with no Loot and a setting that will be treated seriously and with care.

I feel like most folks who like Loot are avid story readers, and those who don't, aren't.
I actually don't think I've seen anybody indifferent to Loot so far lol
Loot's a member of the dead (or at least missing) Fomori, who seemed to have interplanar travel on a broad scale. Loot himself has a telepathic map of every Omenpath, and therefore, a map of the entire multiverse. Jace and Vraska plan on using him to reset the universe as we know it
1. It's fiction, it's all made up
2. The Fomori have been around since 2007 (Fomori Nomad, Turri Isle, Ruhan)
3. The universe doesn't need to be reset, Jace is doing it because he believes the world has treated those he loves unfairly, between Bolas and Phyrexia.
That being said that Izzet shark pirate is 100 percent my next commander build, strictly on the fact that it’s a shark pirate.
This set looks like a blast, and while 2 of the teams in particular bother me and I get the distaste with them
There’s way, WAY more positives than negatives, possibly even more than Duskmourn
the silver lining for me here is the Amonkhet cards, by far my favorite art of the set we've seen so far:
Man, I was ACTUALLY excited about Innistrad...
I still say it's.....
But like…what’s the problem? The majority of trans are fun and interesting, the worldbuilding for the planes is great, and we see Muraganda
There’s more good than bad
Getting to see more of Avishkar is nice.
Bloomburrow was a breath of fresh air in the otherwise cynical cashgrab that WOTC has become
It didn't feel like a hat-set at the time, but I think that that's mostly because we weren't looking for it.
But after Detective World, and Cowboy World, and Racecar World, in retrospect, it sure does feel like Wedding World.
I would have taken Amonkhet in a very different direction, but whatever.
(I totally agree with people's distaste for Aetherdrift 😞)
I know that are new and maybe don't have their niche yet but I don't like the feel of playing them.
All of them feel like spring leaf drum the temporary creature
It reminds me of championing.
Also damn it's been since 2016 I'm old
The game has always been cringe. We're pretending to be wizards summoning bullshit at each other like old ass 90s larpers.
If your breakpoint was some hot wheels and a marketable plushy I think you're taking this a bit too seriously.
Drawing vehicles ain't easy. While most of the set isn't for me (which will save me a fortune on Standard and EDH,) I can at least appreciate the art of the cards as well as enjoy building my new Mendicant Core deck!
The memes, plushies, puns, and jokes overtake all the rest like kudzu, though.
Magic identity is scrambled and dissonant.
The other was meh
I just hope that Tarkir breakes some sales records to send the right message to WotC
People are mad that a set is actually focused on getting cards onto the battlefield and encouraging interactions, rather than everyone just being grumpy cats and negating/removing every play.
And because their pet card wasn't made the mascot, they're treating the new mascot like trash.
People -- especially content creators/influencers -- need to calm TF down and stop trying to steer everything.
What's the alternative if it were up to you? There's only so many different flavors of generic fantasy they can come up with before it gets stale I think. The experimentation with more sci-fi/punk themes was inevitable i think for that reason alone.
and new loot is (a) cool (card)!
I'm very much over the gimmicks though. Detective hats, cowboys hats, now cars and racing things.
Stuff like the Racer X Speed Racer nod is cute. Start your engines is ok, the rest? Too much.
Loot is every Pokemon since then. A lot of people grab on to Jirachi, Celebi, Lucario, or starters...
Loot(s) are part of an evolving IP & I personally view it at Magic wanting to pump their own vs selling someone else's.
PW can be looked at as starters, but they rotate. Loot can be a new Pikachu through it all.
Probably why I like him so much 🤣
The Max Speed mechanic in Aetherdrift does not look appealing, and I think folks will avoid those cards in constructed formats.
Each in universe sets you guys choose not to engage with Magic story, which is why you aren't getting much out of it. It's an unfair comparison.
On the strategic and against the odds type deck building side you put a lot of care into building ingenious and epic decks so it makes sense you are more likely/ chance to get more out of the gameplay.
While you're more likely to enjoy the mechanics & intricacies of game pieces & play patterns because u have such an incredible depth of knowledge & honed it.
