Outlets "have to pretend that there’s always two sides to this," Costas observed. "There really isn’t two sides to much of what Donald Trump represents."

We see this from BBC and ABC (Australia). Bothsidesism and whataboutism is common in both media outlets. Christianne Amanpour said it best - a journalist’s job is to tell the truth. I find it interesting that old journos do this so much more than the young crop.
Thankfully, but I still think journalists should stop trying to do the both sides of the story bit, just tell the truth! Or maybe they can’t figure the truth out for themselves.
Oh I agree. What really stands out for me though is older journalists don’t do it so it must be something that is either now taught in journalism, or their employers tell them to, or they don’t have the courage, or they’re just not very bright.
If federal police in your local jurisdiction wearing masks and military tactical gear without name tags and badge numbers along with Title 10 soldiers doesn't concern you enough to take action; you're on the wrong side of history, need to study the Constitution, and may be next. This is not a drill.
Outlets actually *do not* have to pretend there are two sides. They have made a choice to do that. You don't have to show two sides when there are not two sides.
I'm glad he said this. It's important that public people, esp people of authority, come out and call out Trump illegal and unconstitutional behavior. Nobody takes me seriously if I'm yelling "FIRE!" But people will hear big names shout it.
The problem the media faces is that straight reporting on Trump's acts comes off sounding unhinged.
"Okay, so Trump is firing vaccine experts, trying to kick sixteen million Americans off Medicaid, torching the US economy, AND rolling the military into American cities unprovoked. Yeah, right."

“Both Sides,” on the topic of negative gearing on investment properties on Today & Breakfast is annoying
“Both Sides,” on the topic of the US President provoking a hateful war with US Citizens on CNN & NBC News is a truly dark moment.
