What about their followers? They spent years building their followers. They can’t just leave them. What will the bots and spammers reply to if they leave? All those porn bots going unviewed would be a crimes against…well, nobody.
They all think it is how they stay relevant. Nothing more.
I have been told by some in the newsroom here that X is where news still breaks. I'm inclined to disagree, but it is true that government agencies haven't made the switch yet.
Twitter is dead. Twitter is not coming back. Now is a different thing, so calling it X is a good way to make the difference between the Twitter that at least tried to have some moderation against hate speech and Nazis and the current X that encourages hate speech.
I understand your point, however x is simply a letter of the alphabet. I refuse to give it up to a wannabe Dr Evil because he had $44 billion to piss away.
Shit, Twitter is eleven Nazis and one empty seat where the Jewish guy used to sit. It's so bad over there, I open it up every so often to see and it's just flaming trash

I'm pretty sure that was his argument for increasing compensation, yes. More practically, he considers himself an ideas man. As most of his ideas are terrible or come from poorly comprehended nineties speculative fiction, that's not a long day's work.
Yeah, I saw some coverage about his $56 billion Tesla options package getting rolled back. Part of the reason was that it was meant to get him to do more work on the company, but the package had no requirement for him to do so.
Elon has gone full (musk)rat. He is a shallow, vain, uninspiring, unfunny man child who felt he needed more admiration. Now he has his toy, but the people he really wants to be respected by do not want to play with him anymore.
They like being treated like this because it makes them feel important, as if they are speaking truth to power without the hassle of actually doing so. This is much more preferable to them than being mocked or, worse, corrected.

Suggestion: if he and Ramaswamy are so much at odds, hsve them fight it out in a cage match. The real winners are everyone else.
