Believing your country is the best in the world is a lot like thinking you have the best parents, or the most attractive partner: a perfectly fine belief if it supports your internal emotional wellbeing, but has absolutely no bearing on how you make real-world decisions or deal with other people.

It would be nice if we were willing to consider good ideas from other countries for implementing here, rather than never do that because the way we do it is obvs the best because America. One of these is sensible and the other is dumb but I guess makes some people feel good?
