Thank you, Melissa; I certainly need some encouragement at the moment.
I think I’ll try again with the white Shetland yarn, but I don’t think the grippy grey yarn would make a suitable temporary cast-on because it will be difficult to remove later on. Perhaps sewing cotton would be more suitable.
