As obvious as MAGA is most recently and most loudly to blame, the iconography has suffered greatly since at least the McCarthy era. That said, the desire to salvage and reclaim is certainly understandable.
Works for me, but it is REALLY cool that there's a Four Freedoms flag from WWII era, and what it represents. This is reminding me I gotta buy one of these.
This is John Brown's sword, on display in the Kansas capitol. In the late 1850's, Missouri slavers were trying to take over the territory and make us a slave state.
Brown used his sword to gut said slavers, leaving them to die in the mud.
That was one way to deal with people who carried that flag.
Sadly though, I think he could use the images as a crowd of supporters. Bringing the flag back will take some time. The association with ugliness is deep.
I disagree. 95% of MAGA rally flags are vandalized US flags with Trump's face or whatever on them. Just a sea of straight-up American flags is the resistance.
