Liberal Democracy works until the capitalist owners of the media, prisons, healthcare, and housing, all realize it is in their financial interests to lie to people and rig elections. So you’re going to need some way of stopping that… like, for instance, seizing and redistributing all their assets
Correct. Then rebuild much stronger democratic institutions. Otherwise you’re left with no mechanism for transferring power from the new political elite ie Lenin’s big mistake.
America has never been democratic. The people have never had the power. If anyone lies to the people they’re more likely to be elected than executed in America. You’re right though. America needs communism.
We have run out of time to wait for democracy to be “done properly.” The planet is on fire, and millions of people are going to need to relocate in order to survive. If someone is violently attacking you, you cannot hold a vote to make them stop.
I didn’t say it wouldn’t require a violent revolution. But if that revolution produces genuinely representative democracy then you’ll only have to do it once. Otherwise you’ll be left with no mechanism transfer power from the new political elite and then you’ll be in a real pickle.
there's hundreds of books that basically explain why liberalism doesn't lead to communism, but you figured you knew more about communism than communists. This isn't intended to be a dunk, but I do need to point out that this HAS been addressed over the last 120 years.
I’m sure you believe you’re cleverer than me. And yes you are dunking. Also Lenin fucked up really badly and the Mensheviks were right and it’s a terrible shame they lost. And for all your academic knowledge you still need a mechanism for the peaceful transfer of power.
But, no, the liberal democracy model is intended to defend and reproduce capital's authority and that's what it does. You will not be able to just vote your way into socialism. You can literally see why right in front of us.
I specify liberal democratic because we're in a liberal democratic institution and cannot vote our way into a socialist democracy. You attempting to pull a rhetorical trick to feel like you've got my argument dead to rights is silly and doesn't even work the way you think it does.
I literally added that to clarify that it's not that socialism is antithetical to a democratic foundation but that you can't electorally shift from one power base to another, for ex liberal democracy to socialism.
Literally this has been addressed many times and by many different people. Not only has it been written on but we have literally seen what happens with incredibly popular progressive movements here that aren't even socialist. You require an extra electoral impetus.
"liberal anticommunist" spent the nineties making fun of communists for saying "true communism has never been tried" and are about to spend the rest of the twenties and thirties saying "true democracy has never been tried"
Kinda my point. But you really do need to be explicit about it or you end up with (yes I’m going to say it again) no mechanism for the peaceful transfer of power from the new political elite. And you really need that.

you clap like a seal; "THIS time the suburbanites will turn out for us!"

This is a lesson that every democracy to date has taught and yet still so many haven't figured it out.
It's almost like democracy is run by and for elites and isn't actually meant to empower the least privileged in society and never has...
