Fast forward to the next holiday. I had already decided on a zero tolerance policy with the racist uncle: either he leaves or I leave. A throwdown.

Lucky for everyone he died before I confronted him. Really made the world a better place.

While I agree, I think one of the problems (speaking only for myself) is I don't hang out with men who would say this or men in general. These guys hang out with like-minded guys, so their way of thinking only gets rewarded within their group.

I have found that guys try to feel you out - especially at work.

So they'll say something that's close to the edge, like invite you to agree with them that a women is attractive, and if you don't push back they'll say something more transgressive and see how you react to that.

It’s a very hard thing to do. Build up comfort to speak to strangers in public with polite conversation first Don’t make every public act in front of others angry. It will leave you not wanting to do it. Say hi to workers at the grocery store. Ask a stranger where they got that drink in the mall.

In a great bit of irony, the phrase “Your body, my choice” is perfectly in tune with socking a dude in the jaw. It’s the same principle applied to them and therefore they should have no problem getting socked in the jaw if they say it. Fair’s fair.
