Another thing about regulation: everyone – even me – is in favour of simplifying things. Then you get to the details and have to ask "well, should we get rid of this one about fire testing cladding?" And all of a sudden, you have the same number of regulations, because they're all there for a reason

We still aren’t seeing the benefits of computers to the public because people won’t update the way things work.
Every regulation is there because something has gone wrong.
When people object to "red tape" I point out: donkey meat in lasagne, asbestosis, mis-selling PPP, human tissue collection at Bristol Royal Children's Infirmary.
