I miss the 90s so much it hurts.

A bar was playing the music video for "The Impression That I Get" by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and I teared up watching the last 30 seconds of it. Just felt like they captured a specific type of joy that isn't tangible in most media & they also just look like a bunch of normal dudes who were pals.

Just for the film industry alone, never mind the music, the culture, the feeling that the future was ours and anything was possible. It was back when we had a functional film industry, back when people value the work we did and the rates were good enough to live on.

If I had any idea how things would go, I wouldn't have burned through that decade acting like a horses arse and being drunk all the time. I would have gotten into the film industry nearly a decade before I ended up starting and I'd have a proper career and financial stability. Wasted my 20s instead!

That's what I miss the most, that feeling that the future was full of possibilities, that anything was possible. And so many things were happening around the world that made that feeling tangible.

This may sound silly, but one thing I especially remember was going to a concert in Moscow in 1997. After growing up in the 80s, something simple like that made me feel like the world was truly changing and the future felt unpredictable. It was truly intoxicating.

The 90s were the only time my family knew economic stability. There was so much variety in music & arts that feels lacking nowadays. It wasn’t perfect but I miss it.

I miss those days, too. So much. Having my whole life ahead of me, nothing but possibilities. I would happily go back and stay there.

Same. I hate having regrets but I have so much I’d warn myself about my choices. I know it’s cliche but, as an American, it’s very weird looking back at how different my life & my country was before & after 9/11. It’s like watching a slow motion suicide for 20 years.

I know what you mean. I'm not American, but I lived in NYC back then. And after 9/11, I felt like I needed to hide the fact that I'm Muslim. Life was never really the same after that, like it contaminated everything.

Ugh, that’s terrible. I was in college in 9/11 & my boyfriend was Muslim, we got a lot of looks. It’s very strange being an American now. Maybe it’s why I watch Buffy so much, it’s comforting & peak 90s.
