I'll take peruvian immigrant P-Dogg over that tweedy twat Rupert (birthed whole cloth from the foetid, fascist ads pages of the Daily Express) any day of the week, if we're lambasting fictional british bears...
Honest to god, Winnie the Pooh (named after a real bear from London zoo no less!) and Rupert are literally right here. I’ve never understood why Paddington is hailed as the British bear, I’ve always found him mid 😂
Pooh bear is so sweet and lovely and treats his friends right and that marmalade eating fuck just moves into some millionaire’s house and is SO BADLY BEHAVED
You need to go back to the original Paddington books for the real character of the bear, and not the movie version that’s just chasing box office ratings.
Totes British. Inspired by a bear at London Zoo that AA Milne saw with his kid Christopher Robin as well as a stuffed bear the kid had. The original books with the Shepherd illustrations are absolute gems. Highly recommend.
100 acre wood is in Sussex in southern England. AA Milne wrote them about his son (really called Christopher Robin). Pooh bear was CR Milne’s teddy bear. Not sure that writing a book counts as an invention though!
Yes, but you have to remember that most people's exposure to Pooh is through Disney. I was affirming the above statement by stating I didn't know the story was British in origin.
And while it is less common to refer to abstract ideas as invention, it's not without precedent.
My heart is big enough for multiple rebel bears. Both those whose radical resistance is expressed through persistent leisure, rural idyll, & nature’s abundance & urban immigrant bears whose rebellion undermines the homes & institutions of the wealthy.
harry potter is about RP speaking southerners who live in the cotswolds when they're not at private school and W&G is about lancastrian accented northeners who live in terraced houses
A franchise where by the fifth entry everyone just keeps spamming the same spells over and over again VS. a charming claymation series about a very creative a good hearted engineer and his dog which sees fresh misadventures every time.
