I sometimes think about the experience of driving electric in that way. How a gentle adjustment of the foot shifts precarious electrochemical balance, driving such current through the coils, that mere relativistic correction is enough to make the 2T vehicle surge, & how prosaic we've made this seem.
I do similar with Internet traffic. By pressing my finger to a piece of glass electrons whiz around the continent or beyond, setting off additional electron journeys, all because I wanted to see a cute cat.
i feel similarly about using my camera. we’ve harnessed light itself, bending its path using incredibly machined pieces of glass. shutter blades open and close within a thousandth of a second, all so i can look at a train like a total autist.
Yeah, since in a moving coordinate system, magnetic field of a current goes away, and you get equivalent forces due to length-contraction causing an increase in charge density. So you can look at magnetic field as relativistic correction to electrostatic interaction.
isn't the field driving the wheels creating rotational movement (the magnets inside the coils of the motor)? so there would be no frame of reference where the magnets aren't moving relative to the coil. or maybe I'm totally misunderstanding this lol
You can also look at it from perspective that taking limit c->inf implies μ->0. Or just take vector potential formalism as is. Either way, magnetism is inherently a relativistoc phenomenon. But coordinate transformation shows why it's a tiny correction. Electrostatic forces are just so strong.
Just remember if anything unexpected or weird or noisy happens, just put the clutch to the floor and reset yourself to try again. Make it an instinct as you get the hang of it and you'll save yourself a lot of gnashed gears!
And if it feels like it's stalling, floor the gas and let the clutch out entirely. You might chirp the tires, but at least you won't be cranking the key in the middle of an intersection

It was also be cool as fuck if that drive awakened a total hellion who bootlegged and went out in a blaze of glory Thelma and Louise style in her 20s.
come save me Isabelle
i have never driven stick before
i am both excited and slightly terrified
Just find a nice empty parking lot and spend a while getting a feel for where the clutch engages + practicing getting going without throttle.
