With the Trump administration back in power in Washington, politicians, local home builders and residents are eying massive tracts of government-owned land to relieve housing costs across the West.

Bezos owns the WP, so this „newspaper“ is part of the problem not part of the solution. The US is now a Kleptocracy ruled by part-time Nazis and billionaires without conscience and moral compass
Where they will build as cheaply as possible and the houses will fall around the buyers’ ears in a few years because they will not be able to afford the repairs or the upkeep.
"Relieve Housing Costs?"...The Washington Post has NO Shame in making Wrongful/Moronic statements since its Boss kissed the poisonous ring!.. Housing Costs will ONLY be "MORE COSTLY" under Trump and his Stupid Ass TARIFFS!
It's almost as if the Washington Post is helping Trump enact the part of Project 2025 that calls for the sale of all public land to the highest bidder. Are there any Post employees or investors rich enough to buy a few million Acres of land? Anybody come to mind? Anybody? Come on Post..anybody?
Anyone who lives in Nevada knows that the Payment in Lieu of Taxes supports every rural county with public lands … and that the lack of water -not land - has stymied development.
Who will be able to afford these houses???????Companies are laying workers off. Lumber & building materials are costing more. Trump is a disaster & you are trying to gloss over the realities.
Sure doesn't sound like cutting down the Redwoods or putting new subdivisions (or oil or gas drilling) in National Lands will help us all in any positive way
Are you sure that they are not intending to build internment camps? Perhaps the forced relocation of undesirable elements of society. You know like addicts, the mentally ill, educated liberals....
Where is the water going to come from. Isn’t there a water crisis going on in the western and southwestern US? Climate change will make these areas unlivable in the near future.
They've bought up all our properties now they want to buy up all the public land as well. When does the greed end, and who's going to stop these billionaires from taking everything from us?
Unfortunately the centrists, the leftists and the liberals are all too busy blaming each other and not doing a single thing while fascism grows stronger and stronger.
MLK spoke of the moderate liberal and they still exist today some of them call themselves democrats and then push through fascist cabinet nominations. If the DNC chooses to fight fascism with a centrist they are cooked. IE the new face of the Democratic Party.
It's going to take us protesting visually, financially, & w/ technology. There are 9 centibillionares, & 346 million of us. Our money, our work labor, & purchases are how these men/corps make money. Every dollar you spend someone makes a profit. Watch where & who you give profit to https://GoodsUniteUs.com
That’s it, folks. It’s all about “relieving housing costs.” It’s not about a handful of obscenely rich people making themselves richer by stealing public land.
Las Vegas has huge swathes of land well within it's borders that stands undeveloped. 95% of the developed land is low density. Add in lack of water availability and there's dozens of boxes that need to be checked before spreading out more should even be considered.
Trump won't sell federal land to build housing for people who NEED a place to live! Trump will make deals, that benefit HIM, with his owner, Elon Musk!
That won’t help. Building out, instead of up, just increases the costs of living. In addition, climate change will make that sprawl even less desirable.
@washingtonpost.com only problem with those massive tracts of land for housing is water which is becoming scarce. Fx Phoenix, AZ is depended on the dwindling resources of the Colorado River and depleting ground. Ironically TSMC chip facility being built in Phoenix consumes lots of water

DO NOT SELL NATIONAL PARK LAND

There's NO water. We (AZ) barely had a monsoon season and currently in the dryest winter in years.
Also, last summer and this winter broke heat records. Again.
And if they really gave a shit about housing they'd focus on density not sprawl
Colorado-- you need to school everybody about your River.

The most likely won’t lower housing cost, it will increase infrastructure costs if people have to drive further.
There is none
