It's true. There's an old line restaurant in SF where they had a memorial up to a waiter who *re-entered* the work force at some super advanced age, late eighties, maybe? and it was honoring his service. I'm sure he's gone now, but the point was, he wanted to do it.

Even if they let him sit they won’t pay him for the time it takes him to use the parking shuttle to get the employee entrance, walk to the lockers, change into costume, then walk to his post (and do it all in reverse at the end of his shift).
This guy must have some very deep archaic Disney lore, like the split light bulb fact would be the surface of the iceberg. They better name something after him.
