Also there's the impact on the community around the creator. Like sure, you might have more people... but instead of any worthwhile discussion you just get flame wars and more trolling.

I've gotten hate for probably every opinion I've ever given on the channel. I've been personally attacked on every physical feature I have, my ancestry, my irritating voice, etc. I've been told to kill myself.

First, one jackass spewing bile at you isn't going to make or break any channel's algorithm. If all they have to say is hateful insulting bullshit, Block them.
Second, the algorithm feeds to similar people who engaged. Allowing one troll only brings more. Nip that in the bud.

Also, you want that people scroll down to the comments and find nice additions, maybe a deep discussion, funny remarks etc. That's what builds community. If there's toxic shit floating around as soon as you're 5 pixels below the description, it's just not really wholesome or useful

I have no idea if I'm right, but I'd like to think a "clean" comment field free troll farmed hostility and arguments would increase engagement by the sort of viewers and commenters a channel would actually want and are likely more essential to the channel's sustainability.
