Bernie's "Democrats need to talk about how they are helping working people more" is correct, but his idea that Democrats just spoke about "identity politics" is lazy and wrong. And the idea that they are zero-sum is lazy and wrong too. thehill.com/homenews/cam...

Except that's not what he said (re "identity politics") -- misquoted. Rather, because they did not fully address the struggles of middle/working class, the democrats left themselves open to being pinholed by the fascists re "identity politics." See yesterday with Michael Bavaro on The Daily.

The democratic party should embrace a progressive agenda. It’s what people want. Dems play it safe by staying in the center. That does not work. Republicans went way over to the extreme right. By progressive i mean highlight economic issues while embracing inclusivity.

Bernie is a bit better on today's The Daily where he explicitly says social progress and economic concerns are not mutually exclusive. He's still a bit facile in how addresses the appeal of all the hateful rhetoric, and in the end it boils down to the pundit v. lefty dynamic you describe here.
